Some great aspects to the Bethel Inn. Swimming and Kayaking at Sango Lake was serene. The outdoor pool and tennis at the resort kept the kids very happy and the missus had a great massage! However rooms are dated and need upgrading, no WIFI in rooms is disappointing and on-site food is bland - suggest eating off-site if you stay here,

We must agree that our smaller “lockout” one room condo units lack the ambiance of our other accommodations but we price them accordingly and do our best to prepare guests seeking budget lodging that they lack some amenities. Our full condos offer large living spaces, full kitchens, Jacuzzi tubs, fire places, outside decks and all the amenities of a private home. Thank you for your comments and complements on our resort and the town of Bethel. On your next visit we will be happy to show you one of our full condominiums and we think you might change your mind about this type of accommodation at our resort.

The good: quiet, relaxing resort in town; nice size room with furniture attractively arranged; the polite staff; the 4 course meal served in the Tavern for those folks on the meal plan; and the offerings at breakfast.
The average: the 4 course meal while served hot lacked "punch" - seasonings seemed something forgotten; the breakfast which for the most part was very good but many of the selections were not hot; and housekeeping not replenishing toiletries, glasses and cleaning coffee maker on our second day.
The UGLY: the carpeting in the room was stained and spotted - certainly a sore spot and in need of replacement.
The pool is a good size with picnic tables and plenty of lounge chairs. Too bad there are no tables with umbrellas (other than the picnic tables with umbrellas) around the lounge chairs. The golf course has some interesting holes but the fairways were like the first cut of rough and some of the greens were not cut evenly - short around the edges and longer in the middle.

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We appreciate the positive comments as well as the suggestions for improvements. We have been in the process of remodeling many of our traditional inn guest rooms, including new carpeting and I am sure yours was one of the rooms on our list. Sometimes our green and fairway mowers miss some spots but I can assure you that overall, our course conditions will rank very high in northern New England (see adjacent review). Please look me up on your next visit to The Bethel Inn Resort.

We always enjoy returning to the Bethel Inn with its beautiful gardens and where every employee makes us feel welcome. There are various room options - we found a very large one we really like and always choose it and dining is fine with multiple menu options. A major draw for us is the golf course and golf school - pro Harry Andrews with his individual instruction will knock a few strokes off anyone's game; he sure did ours. There is a pool and exercise facility and tennis and canoeing availability but it is the golf that brings us back. The Bethel Inn provides great value for the dollar!

Room Tip: There are various room options at various prices in different buildings. When you call the inn simpl...

My family and I stayed for two nights in July. The large hotel overlooks a beautiful golf course. The pub and restaurant are good. The staff is courteous. However, the rooms are very dated and appear not to be renovated in 25 years. Peeling paint, extremely uncomfortable beds, and over price are very disappointing.

As you can see from other reviews, you must have stayed in one of our few rooms still awaiting renovation. The process is nearly complete and I am sure you will be pleased with the results on your next visit. I will look forward to personally greeting you then.

This was our first year in the New England Couple Championship Tournament. We enjoyed the whole experience including the room, meals, golf and meeting new people. Our room was clean and comfortable and updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. Evenings in the Tavern were a lot of fun. We really enjoyed the music of Rob Robbins! If you ever meet a short(er) guy name Gary, beware! (LOL!) Great experience! We can't recommend it more!

Room Tip: There are many levels of accommodations from inn rooms with and without AC to suites and condos.

Thanks for your review. This year's couples tournament saw the largest turnout since 2007. I'm happy you enjoyed, a fun weekend had by all. Rob Robbins has been entertaining our guests at The Bethel Inn Resort since 1980 (he was a teenager when he started!) and we never tire of his talents and repertoire. We have booked him again for next year’s tournament and some additional dates.

My wife and I played for the second year in a row. This year was more special then last year because we used this weekend to invite 4 other couples that we play golf with regularly to join us. We had our own little tournament within the big tournament. This weekend as we found you have the opportunity to meet new people at the cocktail hour and getting paired with other couples during the tournament and you have the chance to play with your friends in the first round.

The Pro shop staff (Mark and Travis) bend over backwards to make any accommodation that will make you comfortable. They work tirelessly organizing the event and it shows.

The food was first rate from Breakfast (a variety of choices), Lunch we had on the patio was exactly what we were looking for, Dinner in the main dining room was casual but very professional and nobody in our group had a bad meal. If anything was bad I had no room for dessert.

If you just want to get away with your wife or use this as away to reconnect with your friends this is a perfect venue.

The Bethel Inn is a total mixed bag of accommodations that range from respectively good to disappointingly poor. We originally booked a studio in one of the condominium units and stayed there the first night; terrible choice. The unit was a lock-off in a larger condominium unit, and as such, it had absolutely no sound deadening insulation between it and the adjoining rooms. The noise transference level was beyond belief; we listened to the person next door snore for the entire night, and we could actually hear parts of the occupants' conversations. The unit itself was dark and dreary. No color on the walls, no sheers on the windows that would allow you to let some light in while maintaining your privacy. There were virtually no decorations in the unit, giving it the feeling of a college dorm room. From what we could gather, the condominium units were built in the mid-1980's, and everything looks extremely dated and in need of updating and repair. After one night, we requested a move and the staff graciously moved us into the main inn, a building that was built in 1913. The original inn has pluses and minuses; the common areas are nicely maintained and give the feeling of a time gone by. Our suite appeared to have been recently updated, and combined a certain amount of charm with some modern functionality. Rooms in this building are cooled with window A/C units; something that this day in age seem extremely out-dated and inefficient as it is very easy to retrofit modern HVAC units to old construction; not only are they more efficient, but they are whisper quiet. Fireplace in sitting area was electric and looked out of place. Beds were very comfortable in both rooms. Breakfast was an elaborate buffet served in the main dining room and was more than adequate. Over-all resort has a lot going for it; great in town location within walking distance of several restaurants; note that 22 Broad Street is directly across the street and serves great food in a charming atmosphere. Parking for inn is plentiful; staff is accommodating and friendly. Tavern in basement is a bit dingy and one night during our stay, a live band played until after 11:30 PM, kind of late when the music could be heard throughout the inn. Golf course, heated pool and tennis court. This resort has the potential to be MUCH better with a little capital investment and upgrades. Would we stay again? Yes, but ONLY in the main building. DO NOT reserve a condominium unit unless you have a large family or group and intend to use the entire unit.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the original inn, the condominium units are horrible and have no walkways to the ma...
