Over the last 4 years my wife and I have stayed at about 7 B&B around the country. From Savannah, GA to Park City Utah. The Holidae House in Bethel ME was the best we have stayed at so far. The rooms were a good size and the beds comfortable. But what set this B&B apart from the rest were the innkeepers Marcia and Laurence Austin. They were friendly, attentive and offered suggestions when asked. Everything they did was 1st rate from breakfast in the morning to tea and cookies in the evening. Laurence will even share his recipes if you ask. Be sure and ask about the map on the Dining Room wall.

I enjoyed a wonderful four night stay at the Holidae House in conjunction with a ski vacation to Bethel/Sunday River. The Holidae House is a Victorian home. My room was extremely clean and comfortable. It was very nicely furnished in a Victorian manner. I found the atmosphere to be quite relaxing. Laurence and Marcia are warm, friendly, and congenial hosts. The breakfast area is neat and crisp. Laurence's breakfasts are absolutely scrumptious. My stay at the Holidae House was a really enjoyable and pleasant one.

Austin Holidae house is a fantastic choice for a getaway to Sunday River. It is a beautiful B&B, centrally located on the main street of town and close by to the ski slopes. Lawrence and Marsha are very attentive to detail, and go out of their way to make this a great experience. They even bake cookies for the guests, and provide an assortment of complimentary drinks. All in all, a terrific weekend getaway and a great accomodation.

  • Liked — Romantic accomodation, attention to detail, great location
  • Disliked — Not much

If you're looking for granite bathroom vanities and tubs the size of Lake Tahoe, drive on by. However if you are looking for a pair of charming, funny and engaging hosts this is the place for you.

We had a big group which included children. They managed us and our special requests with graciousness and aplomb.

We would stay there again just for the humor and warmth of the place, even if the food were marginal. However, the food was terrific and plentiful, not a cup of bad coffee or store bought muffins in sight.

We'll visit again and would recommend that you seek out the Holidae House as well. If there was a better reading light by the bed it would have been almost impossible to leave.

  • Liked — The host and hostess were smarter, funnier and more interesting than me
  • Disliked — poor light for reading in bed

Charming B&B and impeccable service... we appreciated the many thoughtful details (like board games and books to borrow), the comfortable rooms, and the terrific home-cooked breakfasts each morning! Very convenient for skiing at Sunday River - we took a free shuttle to and from the mountain and avoided the hassle of trying to park there. We'd definitely stay there again and recommend Holidae House to anyone.

Dec 2008
Geno K. from New Hampshire

We stayed here as part of a 2 day ski trip to Sunday River. Its only 10 min by car or by a ski bus that stops just in front of this B and B.

When we arrived there was a bottle of Champagne on ice in our room. Laurence, the innkeeper was very cordial, and greeted us upon our arrival.

The room was very comfortable and spacious, and the jetted tub was a nice extra to come back to after a day of skiing.

We enjoyed our breakfasts of fresh baked goods, and eggs of your choice, and of course nice conversations with Laurence.

  • Liked — The charming nature of the room and sitting area
