“Great for family gathering”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2009

I've stayed twice at Holidae house and both visits were lovely. The first caused me to book my second for a family gathering of 8. The living room has games and after-dinner drinks that we thoroughly enjoyed. Not the fanciest b&b I've ever stayed in but by far the most loving and enjoyable. Laurence is the consumate host with chocolates, afternoon tea and conversation. Breakfast is a delight -- there are several main choices and such treats as fresh rhubarb compote, homemade jellies, apricot scones and delectible croissants. Eggs any way you want them, french toast and pancakes -- you name it and they make it. This may not look like the most polished place in town but it is the best b&b I've experienced.

My wife and I went skiing at Sunday River for the weekend. It was an impromptu trip and we got a great room with their special "carpe diem" rate. Room was cozy and warm with a good bed. The location is only a few miles from the slopes in downtown Bethel.

Breakfast was amazing! Excellent homemade everything! When I say "made from scratch," I mean they grow some of the fruit on the premises that is used in Marcia's homemade jellies. They make their own granola and boy is it good. Lawrence is English, so there is every type of tea imagineable. There are also complementary after dinner drinks in their cozy common area.

As far as I am concerned, Austin's Holidae House is precisely what a B&B should be and at a very reasonable price. We booked next Valentine's day a year in advance.

If you are looking for a great B&B in Bethel Maine....Look no further...

From the time we called for a reservation.....everything went smoothly...

Both ambiance and faclities were great. (And matched their website)

Situated right in town with great restaurants (on recommendations from Laurence)..close at hand...and only 10 minutes from Sunday River (our main purpose for being there...

Most of all....There was Laurence and his great breakfasts...to say nothing of his personality and English charm....

Don't miss this gem if going to Bethel and you need a place to stay...

Over the last 4 years my wife and I have stayed at about 7 B&B around the country. From Savannah, GA to Park City Utah. The Holidae House in Bethel ME was the best we have stayed at so far. The rooms were a good size and the beds comfortable. But what set this B&B apart from the rest were the innkeepers Marcia and Laurence Austin. They were friendly, attentive and offered suggestions when asked. Everything they did was 1st rate from breakfast in the morning to tea and cookies in the evening. Laurence will even share his recipes if you ask. Be sure and ask about the map on the Dining Room wall.
