Elegant surroundings, relaxed atmosphere, great food. Pricey, but a special treat. A wonderful place for a 'special' dinner to celebrate a special occasion.

We reviewed this restaurant when we visited Blue Hill in 2011. We are pleased to say that nothing has changed. These restauranteurs clearly know what they are doing and have gotten the dining experience down to an art. Fresh and extremely well prepared food that's full of flavor, artfully presented and served by a respectful and responsive staff. On this visit we started with a salad of roasted baby beets with pear and blue cheese, a lovely pairing, fresh and beautiful. For entreés: roasted rack of lamb with a basil and pine nut crust, saffron mushroom risotto cake; and grilled medallions of beef tenderloin with the most delicious demi glace. These were both full of flavor and very substantial servings. I think the lamb was about 8 ounces which was more than plenty. I could have been fine with four or five but I ate all 8! For dessert we shared the ginger vanilla bean creme brulee which, again, was delicious. Smooth, creamy, flavorful with just the tiniest hint of orange. Every attention to detail is made in the preparation, presentation and service of this food. That doesn't happen by accident. Eating like this is not inexpensive but whatever the cost, it's worth it. We felt the value was commensurate with the plates chosen. This is a great special occasion establishment set in an old farmhouse that was completely renovated and restored by the owners. If you're a fan of historic places, dining on this stellar meal in these surroundings is a huge bonus. And if you're really interested ask to see the photo album of the renovations.

You will not be disappointed! The food is absolutely decadent without being soaked in buttery sauces, starches, salt. Each meal at The Arborvine is delicately prepared with detailed attention to the entire dining experience. The visual presentation and taste of each dinner is only heightened by the elegant ambiance and flawless service, from the delightful hostess to our attentive, but not 'hovering' waitress. I so wish this restaurant was closer to Portland! ~Definitely one of my favorites!

Arborvine is a great gem of a restaurant in the picturesque town of Blue Hill, Maine. While the portions are small, the use of primarily local ingredients assures the freshest possible preparations and usually consistent and delicious entrees. The service can be variable, and though there is occasionally a slight arrogance in the servers, a case could be made that given the lack of available good restaurants, it's warranted??? Overall, a lovely evening.

Last week we were on our annual sailing trip up to Penobscot Bay and stopped in Bucks Harbor. My brother and his wife picked us up and took us into Blue Hill. When we saw the number of cars in the parking lot we were concerned about getting a table as we didn't have a reservation. Fortunately we got the last one. I had a very well mixed Manhattan. I had the pate as an appetizer which was excellent along with the main dish, the rack of lamb. The other three diners all had the halibut which they raved about. The place had a nice atmosphere and considering that the place was full, the service was both good and courteous. As other reviewers have noted the place isn't cheap, but we felt we received our moneys' worth.
