What a perfectly fun and beautiful afternoon for a Lobster bake! All around a great day with an enjoyable boat ride out of the harbor. Our kiddo quickly found a friend while standing at the bow which made the trip even more fun for her. Arriving dockside we were greeted by Bob and other family members who really offered a warm welcome. And yes, Momma Bennie Alice was standing on the porch to say hello to everyone who passed. Found a table to share with 2 other parties which also contributed to the festive atmosphere. We weren't waiting long before the summer staff came around to take drink orders and shortly thereafter served delicious clam chowder. At the signal, everyone (nearly 200 people) streamed from tables all over the 5-acre island to join an old-fashioned chow line. But what a brilliant operation! The staff forms a small assembly line to put together tray, plate and implements; add the corn, potato, boiled egg, steamers, and 2 lobsters! The line moved swiftly but there was no rush to enjoy on this visit. Staff helped clear the shells and after a respectable break brought around huge square slices of blueberry cake. Still plenty of time to enjoy exploring the island and we had a great long talk with Bob about the history of the clambake and his family's renovation and resurrection of the clambake tradition on Cabbage Island. Real nice folks! And I loved Miss Bennie Alice's favorite line: Just hope you had enough to eat! Make time for this trip. Well worth the money and time for a charming and delicious Maine afternoon.

Went on this 'touristy' trip with relatives from out of town. It was a pleasant surprise! Municipal parking ($7/day) is right next to it, or just up the hill from Commercial Street. The outing was very well organized and friendly staff, clean and comfortable boat ride. Couldn't hear the narration very well, but caught some of it, as he repeated things several times. That helped. Longer ride out than back in....When we got to the island we grabbed a picnic table outside, and as it was a bit overcast, some guests wandered into the Lodge. There was a gift shop and restrooms in the Lodge as well as LOTS of tables. We sat and visited with our friends and family, a lovely server came by and took and quickly delivered our drink order and after about 15 mins or so, a bell rang and she returned with chowder. Lots of fish, buttery but thin broth. Still tasty! Shortly after we finished, we noticed people moving to the area where the lobster was being prepared and lined up. In no time at all we got our tray of food and sat back down. The staff was again efficient in making the line and keeping the return line moving along. We noticed the table next to us waited until the line was almost gone, and apparently she was the very last one served as she had a pile of lobsters! The last one gets the extras...that day anyways! Our server brought extra butter and napkins around and removed the full shell bowls as well. The soft shells lobsters were hot and sweet, as were the plentiful portion of steamers. When asked why the hard boiled egg, we were told it is like a timer...they put it on the pile at the top of the layers and when it is done, the bake is perfectly cooked! After a dessert of a huge chunk of blueberry cake and coffee, we walked around a bit ( 20 mins I think) and then lined up again for the ride home. No narration there, just a speedy trip back! I know I can get lobsters and steamers cheaper and cook them on my own ( I am a Mainer after all) but this was really a great thing to do anyways..and sharing with out of Maine guests really was a lot of fun. Its by far the best Lobster and Clambake I have been to...Highly recommended. Be sure to make advance reservations and bring cash for gratuity jar at your table. And the gift shop or bar!

You have to go to cabbage island for the clambake, very good price and excellent meal, from the fish chowder to the blueberry cake superb!
The owners go to each table and check on each customer.
Don't forget to visit their 93 year old mother in the gift shop!

We went with friends on the Lobster Boil trip with 150 other people. Had a great time and the dinner was delish!! Two lobsters, big bowl of steamed clams, corn on the cob, potatoes and a big hunk of blueberry cake. A great time with a leisurely well narrated tour out to the Island.

Easy to get on and off the boat, smooth ride, beautiful tour from the boat, a little trouble hearing the guide.
Once on the island the lobster/clam bake was fantastic and the servers helped guide us on how best to attack the meal.
Will do this every time I go there.
