“Another Terrific Stay at SPI...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2012

Memorial Day weekend marked our fifth stay at the Inn...and it was a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. After long days of perusing the art galleries and fine shops in the Boothbay area, it was a pleasure to come back to a well-appointed guest room with a covered deck area overlooking Linekin Bay. The staff was friendly, professional and attentive to details (a few of them even remembered us from prior visits). The best part: being able to bring our chocolate Lab along for the weekend. We've already booked our stay for Labor Day and can't wait to return!

Just came back from an awesome getaway at the Spruce Point Inn in quintessential Boothbay Harbor. Coming from California, I never before experienced the pristine beauty of the Northeast. Immediately upon entering the resort, I was greeted by a wonderful lady who told me about the myriad of activities that one could embark upon in the resort and spa. Although I have never used kayaks, my wife and I used them with ease and even went on a rejuvenating bike ride to explore the town. The ambiance was fabulous and I could not think of a better place to go on a casual outing, a honeymoon, or a family reunion. I would definitely come back!

We found SPI to be a dog-friendly place with a gorgeous view and a lovely place to spend a long weekend. The grounds are obviously well-cared for, and there are certainly quite a few amenities to choose from - though my husband and I did not use these, the resort does offer complimentary van and boat shuttle services to downtown boothbay, kayaks, bikes and a full-service spa.
In general we found the staff to be helpful and accomodating and we even received some lovely ideas on parks to visit with our dog; It may be that we were visiting before the season got underway, but at some points we felt as if a staff member or two weren't sure what was happening on the property - the hot tub appeared to be broken, but no one at the front desk could quite tell us if it had been fixed, even though we saw some men working on it the previous day. I'm sure, had we persevered, there would eventually have been someone who could have clarified for us.
The food on-site was alright; I believe that they were only testing out a 'soft' menu for the main season, so I'm not sure how indicative of the true cuisine our experience was.
Though it may not seem of any consequence, it was bothersome that the only means of getting air into our room was by the doorway; which meant that, if you wanted to have air in your room at night, you had to keep your door open - and unlocked. In a lovely location such as Boothbay Harbor, one would certainly want fresh air in their room, but still not feel as if they have to compromise their privacy to do so. The room did smell quite musty throughout our stay, however it was our decision not to bring this up to management, so we truly can't complain for this.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your review. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to host you again in our restaurant. The Inn is a well known and long standing dining destination and your satisfaction is very important to us. As you might expect, the initial reopening days can present minor issues and we regret if that was the case during your visit. There is no excuse for not having everything 100%.

This past winter, among many improvements and upgrades, nearly 150 windows and doors were updated in the Inn, Cottages, and Cottage Rooms. Please contact me and let me know which accommodation did not meet your expectations so that I may address your issues promptly.

Beautiful setting but 15 % resort tax has to go. We were not able to use any of the things we wanted to except for the pool. We came in late afternoon and we were not able to sign up for any of the amenities for the day. We woke up the next say at 9 am to walk down and sign up for kayaking, to no avai- they were full. We tried the a boat trip and bicycles and they were all booked for the day. The next morning we had to leave to get back to work.We were there for 2 nights but could not use any of the amenities we wanted to except the pool. We could not book in advance either- it has to be that morning. So either they need to let you book in advance or provide a greater number of kayaks etc.,or not charge you a resort tax unless you stay for 3 nights or more. The room was nice with a partial view, the food was average to good but overpriced for not being excellent. The room was nice but not unique in any way.
Loved the setting but feel that they should either abolish the resort tax or let you make an advanced reservation. We would not go back there with their current policy.

Thank you for your comments. We regret that you found the amenities resort fee of 10% an issue. The Inn’s boat launch holds 15 passengers and operates between about 8 and 10 hours per day. There are 22 bicycles and 12 kayaks available from early in the morning until dusk. A private sailboat is also available for 3 trips a day carrying 6 passengers at a time or for private charter. Please contact me. I would like to discuss your suggestions as to how the Inn could make these amenities more accessible.

We did a quick Sniqueaway for the weekend and loved it! Our room had a king sized bed, faced the bay, and had an outside balcony on which we would sit and watch the boats come in. The room was large and had a sofa; very comfortable beds and great pillows! The resort has a ton of things to do for both adults and kids. I had a 90 minute deep tissue massage which was the best I have ever had. Jen was amazing--I can't recommend her or the spa enough. The only reason I did not give this resort a 5 was I found the food OK, but not great.

We will definitely be visiting again.

Room Tip: We were in Evergreen-up the hill with a great view.

We spent 3 nights at this place and the first night was the first open day of the season. The unit that we had was straight on for a western sunset. We had 3 glorious, clear days of sun. Warm in the day and cool at night. We biked, boated, and hiked locally. WE brought some cheese and wine with us and toasted the sunset every night. It's a great place to relax. The breakfast buffet is a good deal. One morning we went out to Mama D's for breakfast. The food was good , but was the same price as the Spruce Point Inn. It was an easy ride from Boston. I'll come back.

Room Tip: Make sure can see the sun setting. On a clear day, it's a sight to behold. We were in Loon#3

Our family of 10 adults and 8 kids spent one night at the SPI and wished we could have spent more. Some notes I took from our trip that made it special and worth 5 stars:

* Remote. Took a while to drive all the way to Boothbay Harbor so great for relaxing and getting away from it all.
* Staff was friendly and helpful. We had 18 people for dinner and they accommodated us nicely -- even though we were taking our time and were the last ones out of the restaurant.
* Restaurant food was lovely. The Maine fiddlehead ferns they served was very interesting.
* Lots of activities for the kids. Swimming, sailing, fishing (though no one has caught anything ever at the pier), biking, ping pong/game room, hiking, jig-zaws, kayaking; and just sitting in the sun.
* Rooms were newly renovated and lots of choices in terms of budget. We had 5 rooms and our room rates ranged from $99 to $249. All of them had comfy beds and only varied in terms of views, bed configuration and certain amenities.
* Kids loved the treats set out for dogs at registration.
* Historical Maine inn so although the amenities are modern, we always had a sense of history. Just a little overboard with the "The Kennedys summered here" bit but that's part of the charm.
* Laundry facilities made packing convenient as we could just bring overnight bags.
* Grounds were well kept-up and landscaped and the views of the ocean are incredible. Were concerned about the famous black flies but didn't encounter any at Boothbay Harbor.

All in all, we loved the property. We were disappointed that the boat to town was not available as they hadn't got the permit yet and would have appreciated their website disclosing that the boat is not always available early in the season. But there were plenty of other things to entertain. A true resort -- unlike some hotels that just slap on the "resort" label and the only thing to do is swimming. All in all, highly recommended for family reunions and romantic hideaways.

Room Tip: make sure you specify what you expect from your view. Some "ocean view" rooms only have a...
