“Incredible breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

Very comfortable, relaxing mid week stay. The king room was large, clean and comfortable. Stephanie and her staff were very friendly and welcoming. The cherry on top of this inn was the home made breakfast . Two days of a variety of freshly baked quiche, frattata, muffins and delicious fruit salad. Would definitely come back.

My wife and I stayed overnight last night in room #1. The room was comfortable--bed was great, breakfast was very good, hot tea and lemon cookies available upon check-in were the best was to enter the inn on a rainy night.

Felicity was a bit busy upon our arrival--3 couples arrived at once. She efficiently checked the couples in and escorted them to their rooms. We sat and enjoyed cookies and tea while we were waiting our turn for check-in. A few minutes later we checked into our room and found it to be clean and comfortable. Later in the evening Felicity was washing windows while we were sitting in the lobby reading magazines and chatting. She talked to us for several minutes and was able to complete her chores while visiting with us--not an easy feat.

We fully enjoyed our stay and plan to stop in again at the end of the season.

We were greeted nicely by Felicia and shown to our very charming room. Felicia gave us useful information on the village and local restaurants and made sure we were registered for one of the two breakfast sittings. Stefanie's breakfast the next morning was more than could have been expected, particularly welcome since it was the birthday of the friend with whom I was traveling. So delicious and such interesting dishes! We had to take a stroll through the charming village to walk off the breakfast before heading for the botanical gardens. This is a delightful place to stay, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends.

Mid week getaway in early June. Short walk to village so it's away from the noise. Breakfast is to die for. Stephanie will not be kind to your diet. Rooms are comfortable and clean and staff are friendly. Enjoyed the cozy feel of talking with other guest at breakfast. Felt like a family gathering:).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.

While everything at this Inn was wonderful, adorable very clean room, great location walking distance to town and friendly staff I just have to say that I was blown away by the delicious home cooked breakfast. It included fresh fruit, a wonderful blueberry french toast casserole and a scrumptious cheese and sausage quiche. Stefanie was a gracious host and if I am in Boothbay again, will would for sure stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 12, which was spacious and has a nice pouch overlooking the harbor.

We had a nice experience recently staying in a second-floor room (room 12) for three nights; however, the innkeepers definitely need to make a few "tweaks" to make staying at their inn more enjoyable.

Upon checking in, we were greeted by a young woman (not one of the innkeepers) who seemed a little confused because she stated that we hadn't paid for our room, which was a disconcerting greeting because my credit card had definitely been charged when I made the reservation(brought my receipt as proof). She accepted that and told us that breakfast was served at 8:30AM, but the next day we found out that was incorrect because people started eating at 8AM (heard them downstairs). Also, coffee was available as early at 7:30AM, but she didn't tell us that. I asked her for dinner recommendations (the downtown area is a short walk), so she proceeded to tell us about a retaurant "down the street that looks like a boat" and unfortunately didn't know the restaurant name or the street where it was located. With that kind of "recommendation," we realized we were on our own trying to find a restaurant. :) We decided to dine at McSeagulls, which is on the water (nice place)--try the scallops and garlic over pasta of the day--delish! (Watch out, they serve plenty of alcohol in their drinks, so one was more than enough!)

Regarding the inn location, please be aware the inn is not "on the harbor"--it's really in an inlet (cove). It was a nice view of the cove during high tide and very quiet area, but when the tide was out it was not a pleasant view. The deck outside our room had nice chairs for resting and enjoying the view, but it was not private (rooms next door had same setup). We opened the sliders to get fresh air (temp was in 80s), but air conditioning was available if we needed it. The beds (two double beds) were very comfortable and the room was spacious. Decor was basically "cottage thrift," which suited the room. The bathroom was spacious and included a refrigerator, which was handy for leftovers and beverages.

Breakfast was the same every day, served on the first floor with a dining room or outside seating on the deck: plain yogurt, granola/fruit topping, home fries, egg/veggie casserole or quiche, toast, coffee, tea, DELICIOUS fruit salad, and orange juice (a little variety would have been nice). Be aware there're only a few tables for eating outside, so get there early to sit outside; otherwise, you can sit in the stuffy dining room or eat outside your room (which is what we did the first day since no tables were available at 8:30AM).

Note to innkeeper: Since no tables outside were available, we sat quietly in two chairs on the main deck in front of one of the rooms. We were very quiet, and DID NOT appreciate the innkeeper asking us to leave that area because it might disturb the people staying in that room. Also, the dining tables were on the same deck next to that room, and those people were making much more noise than we were, so there's no way we contributed to the noise. The proper way to handle this situation would be to supply more information about breakfast during check-in, specifically stating that chairs in front of the rooms are only meant for their occupants.

The inn's appearance needs some updating: some deck floors were peeling and the potted flowers needed watering; however, the abundance of flowers (ones that were watered) were lovely. Also, breakfast is set up in a very tight pass-through area next to the outside deck, which made it difficult to move when several people arrived at once (would be better set up in the dining room).

Checkout was quick--just handed over our key and said good-bye. She didn't ask if we enjoyed our stay or would recommend the inn.

We did enjoy our stay, but the innkeepers definitely need more experience and the inn needs some updates to compete with the vast amount of B&Bs and hotels nearby.

Dear Lisa:

I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit with us and found places to explore in Boothbay Harbor. People are often surprised by the rocky coast of Maine and its long peninsulas. Boothbay Harbour is known for its dramatic tidal shifts, so at low tides, you won't see a lot of water in our harbor. We think the low tide is also beautiful in its own way. Hopefully, when the tide was out, you were able to catch a glimpse of the wading birds that come right into our section of the harbor -- snowy egrets, great blue herons and many more wading birds are often found right on our dock. I hope you were also able to experience that we are a working harbor -- home to both fishing vessels and excursion boats.

I wanted to respond personally about your experience with check in and local recommendations. Even though our summer college employees are still working on mastering the administrative details of the Inn, they should have certainly been able to give you details about the restaurants in town. We do keep a book of menus in the solarium and know all of the establishments in our local area. You chose well with McSeagulls, as it is one of the busiest and best spots in Boothbay Harbour. As our newest employee has also discovered, not knowing the name of a restaurant happens just once. In our little village, it's hard to go unnamed or unnoticed for long!

Finally, since we've had such a rainy start to our season, we have not been able to paint sections of the deck yet, but we are hoping for an extended period of sunshine to catch up with this routine maintenance. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. We are also putting breakfast out in the dining room on our busiest mornings. Please come see us again. It would be my pleasure to make sure you have your own little spot of heaven overlooking the harbor.

Best wishes,
Stefanie
