Shawnee is a perfect mountain if you're looking for the way it used to be. Quaint is often a misnomer for old, whereas this ski area is small, quiet, well run and ideal for families and quite honestly, anyone looking to carve in a few runs.
The lift system is nice, the trails are well groomed, and the safety features seem appropriate.
Mainly, the folks running the place are very nice.
I'd go again!

We have been driving to North Conway, NH for the past few years to ski at Attitash, Bretton Woods, Wildcat ... we always drive *by* Shawnee Peak, so this year we decided to check it out. While it isn't a "big" hill, we found it well groomed and enjoyable. Typical of ski hills, though, the food was sadly over-priced. ($3.50 for a steamed self-serve hotdog?! *really??* ... which is why I almost always brown-bag it!) Probably the biggest negative was the lack of a high-speed lift up the hill but because we never had to wait in line to load, this wasn't really a big issue. The view from the summit is incredible! I think that Shawnee Peak would be a very family-friendly place to ski, and a nice altrenative to the more commercial hills.

I had my first experience with skiing at Shawnee Peak and it was great! The staff, manager, and ski teachers were very friendly and nice. After taking the skiing class I was ready to ski! The first two slopes are great for beginners but I found the rest of the slopes to be very advanced, so be careful if you are a beginner. Their rental equipment is new and clean. There are lunch options available such as pizza on the first floor and a very nice and reasonably priced restaurant (and bar) on the second floor.

Shawnee is a great family mountain. Not the biggest but with the right conditions, it offers great family skiing and the best night skiing in New England. Very reasonable lift ticket prices. Highly recommend.

Not sure how everyone is complaining about price? $40 for all day skiing? That hardly breaks the bank in terms of lift ticket prices, comparable mountains like Sunapee charge upwards of $70!

Someone also mentioned slow lifts? The mid mountain and back side of the mountain are normal speed lifts, however the main lift is a triple that has actually been sped up from normal speed with the help of a magic carpet thing that picks you up to the speed of the lift.

The snow is ALWAYS in excellent condition, with trails being groomed cross the mountain ever night, and the heavily traveled beginner/intermediate area gets a mid day groom at 4PM when they are opened for night skiing.

To be honest, pick any mountain you want, there is no where else that you will be able to get this amount of runs per hour in at this price!

No lift lines, No big mountain snobs, and great snow! What more can you ask for???
