“WOW!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary and stayed September 29-October 6. We can't say enough great things about this resort. The staff, food, and beach are all fantastic. We stayed in Preferred club building 26 and loved our location. Our concierge, Carlos, was also wonderful. When our photo book from an excursion we went on arrived and it was not correct, (was another couple!) he went out of his way and stopped at the excursion site to pick up the correct one because he knew we were leaving the next day. LOVED Carlos! This is the type of service you receive at this resort. Tipping is optional although we wanted to tip everyone because they all work so hard and always had a smile on their face. We also rented the beach beds for a couple of days and loved our waiter Marco.
We tried all of the restaurants and loved them all. Wait times at Portofino tended to be the longest, but we just grabbed a drink and relaxed. Don't forget to make reservations for the Himitsu table. It was a great show! Again food was outstanding...
The staff is simply the best and really make you feel so spoiled. Nightly entertainment shows were also well done. The spa is also a must! It is beautiful and my massage was amazing.
The only suggestion I would have for the resort would be to invest in a few more pool rafts. I felt that there were not enough to go around.
I can't wait to come back and visit this resort again. It was beautiful!!!

Room Tip: We were in Preferred Club Room 2649...fourth floor-corner room and it had a wonderful view.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon from Sept 30 until Oct. 7th. Everything was perfect. The customer service was outstanding. From the concierge to the wait staff to the entertainment team. Secrets staff met all our needs. The food was excellent, especially the romantic dinner on the beach and my wife loved the spa treatments. If you chose to just relax you can do that or if you want to get involved there is always something going on. The mosquitoes are really bad at night, but that is to be expected in that part of the world.

There is a bunch of stuff I am forgetting but everything really was absolutely fantastic!

Really, no complaints from my wife and I. A+++++

This is our second trip to Mexico and twice with Secrets.
We stayed at the Preferred Club...Building 26.
We can't say enough about Maroma. Our stay was absolutely incredible.
From the Beach to the wonderful service we received in all aspects
of this resort. This service was as expected from a 5 Diamond resort.
Can hardly wait to return next year.

Secrets Maroma is, by far, the best hotel we've ever stayed in. If there was an official 6-star rating, this hotel would definitely qualify!

**CHECK IN**
I'd upgraded (as a surprise for my wife) to the Preferred Club Oceanfront Honeymoon Suite. Upon arrival, we were whisked around to the Preferred Club Members Lounge in a golf buggy to check in. The check-in process was friendly, efficient and quick, but with enough time taken to explain all the essentials. We were then escorted to our room by our building concierge, Yanin. She was exceptionally friendly and made us feel very welcome.

**OUR ROOM**
The honeymoon suite exceeded all my expectations. I'd looked at the pics and reviews online, but nothing could prepare us for just how stunning this place was! You walked into the entrance/hallway with a small bathroom/toilet to the left, then the hall led through to the kitchenette area, with coffee machine, mini-bar, stocked with premium beers and soft drinks/snacks (all included, no extra charge), fruit bowl, champagne and flowers for my wife (pre-arranged with the resort prior to check-in). Next to the kitchenette area is the dining area, with dining table and 4 large chairs. Behind this is the living area with a huge sofa, enormous flat screen TV and coffee table and more lounger/chairs. Then there was a set of patio doors which led onto the balcony. We could see a huge lounger on the patio (but I'll come back to that in a minute).

Through the other side of the suite from the living area was a walkway through to the bedroom complete with a super-kingsize 4-poster bed. It looked like a palace! There was an array of deluxe bedroom furtniture, another huge flat screen TV and a walk-in-wardrobe + safe (the wife liked this, a lot)! Adjacent to the bedroom was a huge double jacuzzi bath and next to this was another walkway through to the bathroom area. Twin wash basins, a separate toilet area and the finishing touch was a walk-in 4-person shower! Yes - 4 shower heads!! 2 fixed and 2 adjustable. The decor was all marble/sandstone tiles and looked simply stunning.

Back the other side of the bedroom was a 2nd set of patio doors, which led out to the balcony. Opposite end of the balcony was the lounger (mentioned above). The bedroom end was a 6-person jacuzzi hot-tub, which was simply jaw-dropping. Stunning views of the beach completed the room. We were going to live like a King & Queen for 2 whole weeks!

**FOOD AND DRINK**
There are 8 bars and 7 A La Carte restaurants at Secrets Maroma Beach resort. We tried them all except the French and Oceanside restaurants (as we're not fans of seafood or french food). The rest of the restaurants were simply out of this world! We were spoiled with Portofino (Italian), El Patio (Mexican), Seaside Grill (Steak House), Fuzion (World Cuisine), World Cafe (Breakfast buffet) and my personal favourite the Himitsu (where you can pre-book a Hibachi show), the chef cooks in front of you, with spinning swords, fire and a meal not to be missed! Outdoors, there's the bare foot grill for lunchtime snacks. Most of the restaurants have a casual elegance dress-code, which means jeans or long trousers for the gents. There's a clear dress-code plan published on the daily newsletter, so you won't get caught out.

We found that tipping $1 (USD) every other round of drinks and $5-10 for evening meals was really appreciated (but not expected) by the staff. We had particularly good service one evening at the Seaside grill (by our favourite waiter, Armando) and he treated us to an al-fresco candlelit chef-taster meal on our penultimate evening, by the pool - this was lovely!

**ENTERTAINMENT**
The Entertainment Team were one of the highlights of our holiday. They worked exceptionally hard, and very long hours. From yoga/body-sculpting first thing in the morning, through kayaking tours and bicycle jungle tours, to beach and pool volleyball, drinking games and the evening programme, they were full of fun and energy. Alfredo, Yanni, Szechuan, Big Willy, Manni, The Ferminator, Asmara, Odi and Noodles, they were all amazing! The house-band 'Quarzo' were fantastic and laid on shows including 'Affair' (Cirque De Soleil), Rock Show, Secrets Idol (a spin on American Idol), Urban Soul, a Beatles Tribute and much more. The production of each of the shows was on a par with many shows I've seen in the West End!

**OVERALL**
We were lucky with the weather. Despite being still 'wet season' it only rained twice during our 14 night stay. The 2nd time it rained was pretty heavy, and the tail end of Tropical Storm Karen. But we were fortunate to miss most of this, as we'd stayed in bed all day (partying at Coco Bongo the night before).

The location was amazing, the beach was gorgeous and has been voted one of the best in the world (although it didn't quite live up to Playa Pillar in Cuba). That said, it was lovely to walk along and I can see why it's so popular.

I'd like to finish my review by thanking everyone at Secrets Maroma for contributing to the wonder of our honeymoon. We usually pick a different resort/country each time we take a vacation. However, we had such a lovely time - We are seriously thinking of coming back!

Room Tip: Preferred Club Honeymoon Suite is worth the upgrade. Stunning beach views and a large (6-seater) Jac...

Great hotel, let down by the room and views. Do not book a tropical view room. These obviously need a good paint and refurb! Avoid block 20 and 21. Staff and all other areas of the resort were supberb, so such a shame to be let down by the room. The resort was only 1/2 full at the time!

We wanted to do a quick getaway for our 5th anniversary. We chose this all inclusive so we didn't have to plan anything. The property is on a very beautiful secluded beach so it's very peaceful and never overcrowded. The level of service from this all inclusive blew my mind. I didn't expect this level of service since everything was already paid for and tipping is optional. Food selection was excellent with great presentation. My favorite part was when the waitstaff came out poolside/oceanside with small bites. They even kayak around the pool to serve their food. Lots of honeymooners and couples celebrating their anniversaries. We also saw small groups of friends. People got loud, but was never obnoxious. The bed was comfortable and I loved both the bathtub and the patio jacuzzi tub. I absolutely would recommend this place!
