“Top Notch Beach Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

We recently spent 9 glorious days at Secrets Maroma Beach. After reading numerous reviews on Trip Advisor, I was expecting excellent facilities and service, and the resort definitely delivered. We dined at every a-la-carte and found them all to have wonderful food and amazing service. The breakfast buffet was very extensive including an omelette station, crepe station and smoothie bar. We never encountered line ups, no matter what time we arrived. Lunch options included the buffet as well as another restaurant down by the pool/beach (excellent wraps), and a walk-up grill for some grab and go treats.

What really sets this resort apart is the excellent service it delivers. All the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout. Not only were the servers and various concierges attentive, but we were so impressed by all the nice touches they delivered, like moist towels upon entering the restaurant (no hand sanitizer here), deliveries of pizza, fruit, and other various treats to your lounger on the beach or at the pool during the day. The entertainment staff was also great and helped the resort host special parties to celebrate both the Oscars and Mardi Gras.

The only minor complaint I would have about Secrets Maroma Beach is the Cafe. I only mention this because it was one of the reasons we chose this resort over others in the area since we'd very much enjoyed our latte's on the patio at the last all inclusive we stayed at. The staff would make my chai tea latte with coffee half the time, and the take out cups were incredibly small. Such a minor detail in what was just a glorious escape from what has been a long, cold Canadian winter.

I don't usually travel in luxury, but this is THE BEST resort in which I have ever stayed!! The staff were great, the food was fantastic. It seems nothing was a hassle.
One bit of advise. You can order room service free of charge. The food delivered to you is not nearly as nice as the food at the restaurants!!! As a matter, there are at least 4 stars difference!!! Have fun!!!

We escaped the endless snow and cold and spent 7 days at Secrets Maroma. We had an ocean view preferred junior suite which had beautiful views of the beach. The staff were incredible! Friendly, happy to be there and always willing to help with whatever you needed. The room and entire resort were the cleanest I have ever seen and we have stayed at many high end resorts. The food is very good considering it's an all inclusive. Our favorites were The Italian, the French (Hector excellent wait staff), the Seagrill by the pool for lunch (Antonio, Elmer and Julian also excellent wait staff. We rented the beach cabana for 2 days which was a nice treat. Arturo and Claudine took excellent care of us! We saw part of the fire show and we thought it was great. There is so much entertainment that you could never be bored! A special thanks to Rafael, the General Manager who helped us with a small issue that really isn't worth mentioning. He is a great GM. We are looking forward to our return trip!

My husband attended a conference at this resort, and lucky me, I got to tag along and spend a week at this gorgeous resort. We had never been to a Secrets resort before, and we were very impressed.

The Maroma Beach property is located right on Maroma Beach, which is one of the loveliest beaches I've seen (and we have travelled extensively in the Caribbean). Beach entry is very easy; it is sandy; no coral or rocks to deal with. It is so relaxing to use one of the comfortable loungers on the beach with a shade umbrella. I enjoyed long walks in the morning on the beach, in both directions from Secrets. The water sports center is right on the beach where you can arrange for a snorkel boat tour or take a lesson on how to sail the Hobie Cat.

The resort has an atmosphere of understated luxury. The expansive lobby has a bar, comfortable seating areas, a grand piano, and outdoor lounge. Fountains along a meandering sidewalk, hammocks, outdoor draped beds, and many inviting bars (including two where you can sit on swings) provide a comfortable yet fun environment.

There are two main pools; one is smaller and cooler in temperature; the other offers warmer water, a swim-up pool bar, and floating loungers. Activities include water aerobics and pool volleyball. Several times during the week, live musicians played by the pool; at other times, a variety of recorded music is featured.

Mixed drinks tend to be pretty sweet and you can't taste much alcohol; either take a small bottle of rum from your room down to the pool to add to your drink, or just order a shot of rum or vodka to add to your daiquiri.

Try the ping pong table that sits in water in front of a swinging bar; you can also play the mini golf course. There are apparently free bike rides through the jungle (ask when you first arrive to find out what days/times).

Several nights a week live music is offered in the lobby. Enrique is a lovely gentleman who plays the beautiful Pramberger grand piano with a magic touch three nights per week. The theatre offers comfortable seating, great bar service, and entertaining shows. We enjoyed the Beatles tribute, Rock n' Roll show, and Love (a Cirque type show); the acrobats/aerialists are amazing athletes who put on a very entertaining show and the musicians in the band are all very talented. The quality of shows was very professional and provided an entertaining evening after dinner.

Restaurants:
El Patio (Mexican) - good but very small portions
Bordeaux (so good we went twice - scallop appetizer great)
Portofino (Italian - good, but liked French better)
Himitsu (excellent - tempura shrimp and teriyaki salmon)
Seaside (amazing filet mignon; was not on menu, was special of the evening)
Oceana (seafood)
World Cafe - offers a fusion restaurant; we heard great reviews about this, but did not have a chance to try it.

Waitstaff in all of the restaurants were very friendly and attentive; they all contributed to a fine dining experience. The World Cafe offered an exhaustive array of food choices for breakfast buffet. The only minor complaint I have about this resort is about getting coffee refills. We Americans are used to big mugs of coffee for breakfast, but the cups used here were quite small (3 or 4 sips and you were empty); coffee refills were not offered very promptly. Even in the restaurants in the evening, it just didn't seem like coffee is revered as much as it is in the U.S. I did enjoy the special coffee maker that is in your room; again, the cup was small, but the coffee quality was delicious.

The rooms are spacious and sumptuously appointed. It is nice to have curtains by the jacuzzi tub to distinguish between the bathroom area and the main part of the suite. I loved the curtains on the four poster king bed as well. There was a nice sitting area, desk that was convenient for a laptop, and balcony with sitting area (we also had a jacuzzi on the balcony). Rooms were kept meticuluous by the maids, who cleaned and freshened the room/bathroom twice a day.

We enjoyed our stay tremendously and would love to visit again. The resort was so beautiful that we opted to just stay right there and enjoy all of the amenities. Even though there are excursions and tours to local sights of interest, we never left the property. We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing week by the pool and on the beach, enjoying this fabulous resort.

Room Tip: Third or fourth floor gives you a better overall view of the resort and the ocean.

The service at this resort is world class. Food was above average with the Italian being the highlight, the Hibachi was so so, steak house very good (particularly the Chilean sea bass entire, and the word cafe had superb breakfast. I recommend getting a cabana by the beach. Arturo the beach concierge leaves no detail unturned. It cost an extra 50 per day but well worth it. You can eat, drink and relax right on the ocean and they never leave your glass empty.

By far the best all inclusive I have ever stayed. In addition the liqueur was top shelf brands. We will be back. Keep in mind this is adults only so unfortunately you can't bring the kiddos.

Not going to write a book about my stay but the facility was very nice and the rooms were clean.
We have the preferred package and the swim up rooms. The swim ups are not a lazy river or anything where you can go from your room to a pool bar. They are just a pool that is in front of each building in the preferred area. The preferred club had better drinks but other than getting room locations nearer the beach not sure it was worth it. The Beach and pool area were great and the activities staff were awesome. Thomas, Gabriela, Jordan and the" Ferminator" made sure we had a blast when we wanted to and let us be bums when we didn't. Food was very good and available all the time.

Awesome Trip

Room Tip: The Jr Suites are nice. Resort isn't overly large so walking anywhere is pretty easy. We staye...

We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach in January 2014. It was really a very lovely experience. Check in was very quick, professional and friendly. We had a preferred swim out room. The room was nothing special but very clean with everything you could want The bed was very, very comfortable but we did not care for the pillows. The shower was very good and bath products nice and replenished daily. Yes, the toilet is behind a frosted glass door with no real privacy.( I suggest you know the person you go with very well or just not care about sounds or smells..haha)The swim out pool was very nice, beautiful at night! We did have some issues with mosquitos in the evenings but hey, it is in the middle of a jungle! We tried the preferred club to have a drink but just found it to be too quiet. In my opinion paying extra for perferred just wasnt worth it. We found the grounds of the resort to be an unexpected surprise. We loved all the vegetation and beautiful flowers throughout the resort.

We enjoyed all the dinner restaurants with Italian being our absolute favorite! All the wait staff were very well trained, friendly and if you cant decide what to order ask what they recommend.Room service was very good and arrived promptly. Lunch was just ok for us. The restaurant by the pool was very good. We didn't really care much for the grilled burgers and wished for more lunch options without getting dressed to go to the buffet. Breakfast was excellent! Little coffee bar was wonderful

The beach really is as beautiful as everyone says!! However, we found the service on the beach to be quite poor. We had a hard time getting a servers attention to order a drink and many times ordered and never received them. Finally gave up trying and walked to the bar ourselves. This happened all three days we spent at the beach. Normally this wouldn't be a problem and it really wasn't Im just mentioning it because many reviews rave about how wonderful, over the top the service is. I would like to suggest to the management they hire additional servers for the beach area. Service by the pool was excellent although the pool itself was chilly and we were dissapointed we were too cold to sit at the pool bar.

Would we recommend this resort...absolutely! Would be return...maybe someday.
