I have just completed my third visit to Williams Pond Lodge. Twenty-one nights! Wonderful! I arrived in late Spring and saw the arrival of Summer and July 4th. As always, David was a terrific host, breakfast chef, dessert baker, conversationalist, planner of fun activities, piper, and sometimes companion on coastal excursions. I was lucky enough to see and hear him pipe for guests at WPL and also at Hull's Cove on MDI and atop Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park. Love those pipes!
As my first two visits at Williams Pond Lodge were in autumn, it was good to be here in late spring and early summer when all the world is lush green, the pond is warmer, the loons are seen and heard nearly each day and night, and ospreys, turtles, and great blue heron are about. Each night I looked out my windows to watch the magic lights of countless fireflies and listened through open windows to the frogs crooning in their varied voices. What a way to fall asleep. Each morning I awoke before dawn and soaked up the view of the pond below. Nineteen mornings out of twenty-one the weather allowed me to take a kayak out for a pre-dawn or at-dawn paddle to the far end of the pond and then criss-cross my way back to take a swim after putting the kayak away. Most days I could also venture out once or twice again and also repeat the swim! I love this pond and the soft feel of the water. Beautiful, calming, and soothing. The one, two, or four loons I often saw, plus osprey, heron, and turtles, added to the enjoyment of being on the water.
Williams Pond Lodge's convenient location again made it easy for me to take trips to Bangor, Bucksport, Blue Hill, Acadia's three divisions, and even to Portland. At all these locations there are opportunities for hiking, sight-seeing, and good eating. In Bucksport I enjoyed MacLeod's and Carrier's. The central location also makes it easy for me to visit older and newer friends as well as relatives in the area.
Can't say enough how much I love Williams Pond Lodge --- its quiet, birdsong, peacefulness, restfulness, calmness, flowers, wildlife, proximity to so many attractions and activities, fantastic breakfasts and desserts, and of course host David.
And, I am planning my fourth trip for this autumn!
