“awesome views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

It is a short drive up ( toll ) and worth every penny, the views are incredible of the harbor and surrounding islands. It was a bit foggy the day I went but still a lovely spot to rest and reflect.

“Inspiration for Edna St. Vincent Millay's seminal poem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

A plaque set in stone at the top of Mount Battie in Camden commemorates the author and the writing of the poem Renascence, supposedly written while the young Ms. Millay was enjoying the view from the summit. she later read the poem at a local inn, where a patron was so impressed that she financed yound Edna's college education at Vassar. The poem sums up the view from Battie's summit:

All I could see from where I stood
Was three long mountains and a wood;
I turned and looked another way,
And saw three islands in a bay.

There's a parking fee, but you can also drive up the mountain rather than hike it.

“Incredible Views!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

You do have to pay for access to drive up to catch this amazing view, but it is also fully available via several hiking trails. One of the hikes is very short (1/2 mile), but is a bit steep in a parts, and the other trail that I tried is longer...I think a mile or two?? but less challenging.

Whether you pay in sweat or cash, the view is 100% worth it!! On a clear day, you can see all the way to Acadia National Park's Cadillac Mountain! Pretty cool.

“A great view of Camden, its harbor, and surrounding islands”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

Just a delightful place to spend a couple of hours. It has a great view of Camden below and the harbor and islands surrounding it. Lots of hiking trails for those who want to get in a little exercise. Also, there is lots of space to have a picnic or just to read a book in a serene environment. The entrance fee is very reasonable.
