Beautiful views of Camden and environs. Easy drive up to Mount Battie although many people hike to the top.

“View View View”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

Went to Mount Battie and as others have said, you can either drive or walk. Make sure you read about the history of Mount Battie and the stone tower at the top of the mountain. Make sure you go on a very clear day so that you can take in the breathtaking views of Camden and the surrounding area. Climb the steps to the top of the stone tower and take plenty of photos. This is a must see and a must photo opportunity. It just makes you realize how glorious Camden is.

“The View!”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

You can either walk up the hill to experience this view or just drive to the top. There is a small fee, but worth it. Other than Cadillac Mountain on Mt. Desert Island, this is the "must" see of Maine.

“awesome views”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

It is a short drive up ( toll ) and worth every penny, the views are incredible of the harbor and surrounding islands. It was a bit foggy the day I went but still a lovely spot to rest and reflect.

“Inspiration for Edna St. Vincent Millay's seminal poem”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

A plaque set in stone at the top of Mount Battie in Camden commemorates the author and the writing of the poem Renascence, supposedly written while the young Ms. Millay was enjoying the view from the summit. she later read the poem at a local inn, where a patron was so impressed that she financed yound Edna's college education at Vassar. The poem sums up the view from Battie's summit:

All I could see from where I stood
Was three long mountains and a wood;
I turned and looked another way,
And saw three islands in a bay.

There's a parking fee, but you can also drive up the mountain rather than hike it.
