We walked the one mile from our hotel to the bottom of Mt. Battie. This was especially nice, as it gave us a chance to see some of the homes of the locals. We packed a nice luch from the Camden Deli, and took plenty of water, both for hiking, and for lunch. It is a rocky, sometimes steep climb, but definetely not dangerous. We did it with our 6 Y/O girl, and 10 Y/O boy, and while we considered stopping, our adventurous kids wanted to go to the top. Just watch your step, and follow the blue trail marks. Once on there....WOW!! What great views, superb breeze and the best picnic spot ever!! For dessert, we picked the wild blueberries that covered much of the gound, and ate them to our hearts content, mmmm!!! If you choose to drive, you will have a $3 fee per car, and you can get off and walk to the observation tower. If you hike it is free. We really enjoyed it, and so did our kids.

This was my favorite part of Camden and it wasn't even in town! I would especially recommend it for older folks who can't hike easily. Drive right up to the top, get out, and take lots of pictures of one heck of a view over Camden, Rockport, etc. What also rules about Mt Battie is the abundance of trails that criss-cross the drive up. There are many so you could easily make an entire day of it. I forget the name of the trail we took, but it got pretty rough for us. I don't see how the rocks could naturally lie as they are to form a staircase, but equally puzzling is how someone could move such large rocks in such a remote place!

We just came back from Maine. We had an awesome time. We stayed at the Blackberry Inn for three days and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. One of our days we decided to go to the top of Mount Battie. It was a beautiful day. We had views of the charming town of Camden and we could hear the church bells in the distance, it was quite breathtaking. There are hiking trails available for the adventuours, climb the tower or you can just sit on a rock and enjoy the peace and quiet. The cost into the State Park is $3.00 for adults. The admission is good for all day and I believe it will also give you admittance to the picnic grounds across the street with views of Penobscot Bay. Pack a lunch from the Camden Deli and make a day of it.
