My husband, daughter and I stayed here on our way to Canada. We were looking for something clean and affordable and the Birchwood did not disappoint. The rooms are simple but very adequate. The very friendly, helpful owners suggested we head up to Camden Hills for our hike before it closed for the evening and also gave us a good tip for an inexpensive dinner on the water. Loved the flower boxes and beautiful view from the porch.

stayed here for three nights and we had a nice experience with either the location, room and host of this clean motel. think it is a good value for the money we spend. there was a light breakfast included which we appreciated.

We just arrived home from a 4 day stay at the Birchwood. What great value for this motel. Eric and Jenny were very hospitable, our room was immaculate, and the view from the front porch was a vista of the bay. We slept well, finding the location peaceful. We loved the morning coffee ( Sumatra from Rockland's Rock City Roasters voted Best in Maine by Downeast Magazine) and the warm zucchini bread, and blueberry buckle we enjoyed this weekend. We would recommend this motel to anyone visiting in the area. We had a great vacation and hope to return soon.

We requested a late check-in upon making the reservation (normal check-in must be by 7:00). The front desk employee was extremely rude to my mother upon arrival and told her we should have called to say we would be late. When she told him we had requested it when we made the reservation, his response was there was no note of this. There was no apolgy for his rudeness. Breakfast the next morning was a joke and we went to a restaurant in town. We will NEVER stay here again!!

We first stayed here in 2007 for a few days after a schooner trip. What a delightful couple the owners are. They had just bought the motel and Eric was still doing renovations to the place and adding some homey touches. Our second stay was even more enjoyable. The rooms are extremely clean with comfortable beds which are very important to me since I have fibromyalgia and a bad back. The motel is a place to sleep, not the destination; the destination is the surrounding area. We will return anytime we are going to be in the area.

My partner and I have been patrons of The Birchwood Motel for better than 10 years. The previous owners provided a clean, comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price. We are so glad the energetic young couple who bought The Birchwood, are continuing with the same business plan.

The new owners have made numerous improvements to this nostalgic mom and pop operation yet have maintained its charm. They are always smiling and try anyway possible to make your visit to Camden a happy one. They are very knowledgeable about the area and gladly advise and give directions.

We like the privacy of staying in a motel, yet on many nights have enjoyed sitting on the ocean view porch, visiting with other guests. The motel is a convenient short drive to Camden and other points of interest.

The decor is that of traditional motels, tasteful and pleasant. Some of the lower priced rooms are small, so if that concerns you, ask for one of the deluxe rooms which are larger and have larger baths. Naturally, they are higher priced but worth it.

Ice for beverages can be obtained at the office. However, if you are traveling with a cooler as we do, pick up a bag or two before turning in for the evening since there isn't a public ice machine. Coffee, pastries and fresh fruits are available in the office/lobby each morning.

If you require an opulent hotel or B&B, there are plenty of them in Camden and you will pay a grand price too. But if your needs are simple and you would rather spend your money dining and shopping, The Birchwood Motel is the place to be.
