Our four night stay at the Captain Swift Inn in Camden Maine was wonderful! From the first day we arrived (where fresh-baked cookies were waiting in the foyer for us to try), to the day we left (where we had a beautiful 2-course breakfast including spiced peaches, a brie and sausage omelets, fruit salad, and fresh-baked coffee cake) the Inn and Innkeepers were wonderful.
Out of the whole experience, I would say the Innkeepers and breakfast are the reason that this bed and breakfast stands a large step ahead of many other Inns and hotels. Linda and Norm were always available and willing to help, but also more than happy to let you do your own thing. They gave us great advice on where we should go for specific food, and what we could do in the area. Never having been to Camden before, this information ensured we had a wonderful time outside of the Inn. The breakfasts Linda made every morning were also impressive. Each morning we had a different 2-course breakfast that I could never finish! The food was fantastic and and freshly made- no rubbery eggs that have been sitting out for an hour like you find in many other hotels and inns. An added advantage (as we were budget-conscious) is that this meal really "replaced" lunch for us- we just came back for a granola bar sometime in the afternoon and we all set until dinner.
During our stay we slept in the Locke room. Now, if you plan on spending large periods of time hanging out inside of your room, or you have mounds of luggage, this room is not the best choice (as you can see by the pictures and description on their website). However, the room was perfect for us, as we primarily needed a place to sleep at night, and to watch tv for an hour or so in the middle of the day. We didn't use this room's sitting room (it was in a public area), but as I said, that was not our goal. A nice aspect of our room was that we had original exposed beams on the ceiling, and the bathroom was very modern and lovely.
Other advantages to staying at the Inn are that it is within short walking distance of the center of town and a short drive to Rockport, there is plenty of off-street parking, it is air-conditioned, and there are many unique touches left from the original home.
Overall, we highly recommend it!
