“Fresh Local Food / Need More on the Plate”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

Doc's Cafe recently opened after renovating a beautiful old building, rich in local history. It seems that this site was once home to a tavern, dairy farm, apple orchard, and, finally a doctor's office--hence, the cafe's name.

The cafe is small, with just a few tables for seating indoors. Additional seating during warmer months can be found outside. However, the cafe is entirely self-service. After ordering and receiving your meal, you find your table--it's just a place to enjoy wonderfully prepared, fresh foods-to linger after eating with a few friends, over perhaps a glass of wine, enjoying good conversation.

The cafe serves breakfast and lunch type items, and is open 7 days: Monday thru Saturday 6AM to 6PM, Sundays 6AM to 2PM. As a specialty foods cafe, it serves exquisite combinations of tastes as breakfast sandwiches/burritos/muffins/yogurts/fruits running $2-5, soups as cup/bowl for $4-5, salads for $7-8, and, meat/fish/veggie sandwiches ranging in price from $6-8. The cafe also has a small wine selection and a few retail racks of specialty and other type foods.

We visited the cafe recently as three adults. By the time we ordered our meals, ice tea, and some chips, we paid $40. Although the food was exceptional, we felt that there was something missing from the plate. For the same money, we felt that other restaurants offered more. However, those places are also in higher traffic areas and make their money on volume. This is a smaller cafe, not in a tourist area, and serves mostly the local populace.

We will certainly visit again, the food is that good--but, not as often.
