Owner description: Nervous Nellie's is a cottage industry (jams and chutneys made with mostly Maine fruit) in a cottage. It's a sculpture studio and acres of whimsical sculptures and installations of American icons like the general store, the juke joint, a western town complete with saloon, sheriff, jail, Chinese laundry, fortune teller, church, Grail castle and wizard's tower all made in Peter Beerits's quirky style, using re-purposed "junk" from the island dump and countless old barns. Little ones enjoy the sandbox under a grape arbor, while parents relax in Adirondack chairs close at hand. Try free jam samples in the shop or have a homemade scone with jam in the tea room. Something for everyone here!

Imagine visiting an outdoor/indoor sculpture garden, a Maine Food/Gift shop and possibly a nature walk from the 70's all at the same time! We have been here 4 times over the last 10 years and plan to return in 2014. It is almost in the middle of nowhere-near Stonington on Deer Isle Maine--but well worth the trip. You can make a day trip stopping at Castine and Dyce Head light and then journey over the fabulous and very old Eggemoggin Reach bridge stooping by for a glimpse of Pumpkin Island Light and then on toward Stonington-with a turnoff shortly before you reach the village itself. The sculptures are fantastic and made from all kinds of old materials and things. They are difficult to describe but one of the best ones is a fish and lobster playing checkers and a larger than lifesize castle with knights, lady's in waiting and monsters. Don't miss it and you get free samples of very good jams and jellies.

Great jams, jellies, and chutney's with an eclectic small city. I know it is a bit of a drive well off the beaten path but it is well worth it. All of the jams and jellies are great but my personal favorite is the Hot Tomato Chutney. The B&B we stayed at in Bar Harbor used these products every morning and they got us hooked. Bought a case for gifts and should have bought more, o well I can order on line and have them shipped. Check out the sculptures and details in making up the town.

Anne's jams and jellies are so delicious, particularly when combined with one of her delectable scones and accompanied by a steaming cup of coffee... a day doesn't start much better than this! Savor every bit and then lick your fingers! Luckily, all the jellies are available to purchase; I heartily recommend the Blue Razz conserve and the Cherry Peach conserve. Also, the chutneys are WONDERFUL with goat cheese or mixed into some brown rice; the rhubarb ginger and the cranberry peach are a few of our favorites.

The sculptures and restored buildings are amazing, and all in all, your visit is sure to be most memorable. We begin and end every season with a visit to Nervous Nellie's and after your first encounter, you, too, will be back for more every time you set foot on Deer Isle.

You can spend an hour sampling all of the jellies, jams and chutneys, just browsing the store and visiting with Anne. We had a case of all different flavors shipped to Texas so we didn't have to fly extra luggage and it was here the day promised, the day after we got home.
But don't leave without strolling through Peter's art which is displayed throughout the grounds. We didn't realize we could enter all of the buildings and enjoy even more of his artistic creations. We strolled the grounds and were amazed at his creativity, but we found out when we got home that there is so much more inside The Saloon, The General Store, etc.
It is a must see even if you have to go out of your way. There are so many choices of flavors, you won't be able to leave without finding one of your new favorites.

The jams & jellies which are made right here are wonderful!!! I had a chance to experience a "tea party " with 8 friends here which included fresh, hot scones with your choice of jams or jellies and tea. It has been a VERY, VERY long time since I have been to a tea party and let me say, it was awesome!!!! Highly recommend this to all who come to the Deer Isle/ Stonington area or live here!!! What a wonderful time we all had!! Many thanks!!!
