Owner description: Nervous Nellie's is a cottage industry (jams and chutneys made with mostly Maine fruit) in a cottage. It's a sculpture studio and acres of whimsical sculptures and installations of American icons like the general store, the juke joint, a western town complete with saloon, sheriff, jail, Chinese laundry, fortune teller, all made in Peter Beerits's quirky style, using re-purposed "junk" from the island dump and countless old barns. Try free jam samples in the shop or have a homemade scone with jam in the tea room. Something for everyone here!

“Magical place with killer scones”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

This was such a wonderful surprise. The sculptures and creations are fantastic and quite unique. The Wild West and King Arthur scenes are haunting and stay with you long after you leave. I started looking at my household junk a bit different too. The scones and jam are great and it is a very friendly place. Not too far away there is a nice hiking trail to walk off all that jam.

“Great surprise”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

This place is magical for kids young and old. We spent a couple of hours marvelling at the village and the many sculptures. Wonderful scones and coffee. Also a great opportunity to see many of the works of local artisans.

“A must for families!”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

The art is everywhere and some of the most creative pieces you have ever seen. Where else can you walk into art? AND have a sandbox for your four year old to entertain herself in while you can actually sit and enjoy your coffee, homemade scone with the best jam in the world? AND the cleanest porta-potty I have ever seen. My four year old commented on this also, "this is very clean mummy". If you are on the island, especially if you have children it's a must stop at. If you don't have kids, pretend you are one and play in king arthurs court in the woods, maybe pretend your a knight....you will feel like one! Oh, and support this amazing place and buy some jam, a one of a kind bird house or maybe a sculpture for that place in your yard you will see it everyday, you will not regret it!

“You just have to visit this place to understand it!”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We have been here five times over the last 11 years and still love to visit, especially when we bring someone who has never been here before. You just cannot describe the "different" sculptures and buildings/scenes---and there are more each year-plus the different food lines are also increasing along with all kinds of gifts. It is a One of a kind experience!

“The best $ ever spent”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We took a trip to this place not knowing what it was. Well I can honestly say we had 2 hours of peace, amusement, entertainment, and just total relaxation. In the middle of nowhere. Just past the third star on the right you come to this never never land. Oh how worthwhile it is to find. We were welcomed by a charming lady and an equally charming dog. Then we were shown around the small kitchens and area where miracles that they call jams, jellys and chutneys are brought to life. A small cafe with a large selection of tea and coffee also pastries if your waistline allows, mine says NO. But i did sample many of the 15 delights in a jar that they produce. What a superb selection of to die for tastes there are to sample. We purchased 2 jars to take home with us and 2 cups of the most wonderful lemon tea. l. The artist Peter Beerits uses what most folk throw out to make the sculptures that are spread around the woods and land. Inside the many huts and wooden buildings are delights aplenty, all from this mans most active and inventive mind. Then just wandering in the wonderland that they have created, all in all a further 90 minutes, but it could have been far longer. What a place, what a wonderful experience for any age 5 to 105 and all this including 2 pots of jam and the teas came to the princely sum of $19. It is free to come to this place and look, but I bet you will buy some jams.
Thank you for a great visit, and may you continue forever.
