We stayed at the Deer Isle Hostel for 2 nights, and wish we could have stayed for longer. We booked their private room, which was a smart choice for us; the dorm beds were pleasant, but we needed a little more space and privacy. Everything about this place expresses the love the owners have for their project, for their guests, and for the land they are on. The land the hostel is on is beautiful, with 2 large vegetable gardens, chickens, pigs, a bonfire pit....We stayed for one communal dinner, the food was tasty, the conversation with the other guests was friendly and interesting.
We had intended on staying at a motel in Stonington, but they were booked, and I feel so lucky that we ended up at the Hostel. If you like a little more ruggedness (although all the facilities were clean and in good condition) , are looking for an out of the way beautiful spot in Deer Isle, and an opportunity to see people put a lot of love and energy into a sustainable, ecological project, I really recommend the Deer Isle Hostel.More
