Ocean Point Inn and Resort
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 10 May 2012

Just across the road from Ocean Point Inn and Resort, perched on some rocks on the lawn are two iconic lounge chairs, perfect for easing into and watching the most beautiful Maine sunsets.

Whenever we want to get away and to enjoy the best of Mid-Coast Maine, we book at Ocean Point. As we drive down the road toward the Inn, we look for those chairs and know they are emblematic of all that awaits. Simple, immaculate rooms, great service, and the most relaxing of paces are all a part of why we return again and again.

Spent two nights, rooms are comfortable albeit a little tired, but clean. Location can not be beat. The hotel is a charming complex with a cozy pub and excellent restaurant, which is just as well as it is well off the beaten path. And the view! Good value, charming.

My husband and I have stayed at Ocean Point Inn a few times in the last several years. We have only stayed in the motel section so this review will not address the other types of rooms, of which there are many.
It is a typical older motel but fairly well maintained. By far the biggest selling point for the inn is the unbelievable view from most of the rooms and the grounds. The area, East Boothbay, is also another reason for travelers to stay here. It is basically a residential area 10+ minutes from Boothbay Harbor, a fun but very touristy area.
If you are looking for a low key vacation in a beautiful area, give Ocean Point a try.

My husband and I went for our 11th summer visit to the Ocean Point Inn this past August. We had always loved our stay there and although the accomodations were not luxurious, the wonderfully friendly greetings you got and the wonderful attention to detail from the owners and employees made up for the dated rooms. I am sorry to say with the owners off site on a daily basis, the inn has changed. Normally, upon arrival we would be greeted with a welcome back, this year we were greeted by a friendly young woman who asked us if we had ever stayed at the inn before? Even though I said we had she continued to give me a map of the property and directions to our room as if she did not listen to what I had said. We went to our room and changed to go to the pool. They inn used to provide pool towels but when we got there the young man covering the pool mentioned they were running short so there were no towels. Back to the room we went to get our own towels, frustrating as they should have mentioned that somewhere. There was a mouse trap under the sink in our bathroom, while mice may be a reality in Maine, it was not something I wanted to see when spending so much money to stay. We had made dinner reservations at the inn for both nights we stayed as we do every year. When I had called ahead and asked for a special table for our second night as it was our actual anniversary, they took my info and said we were all set. The first night they sat us in the beginning of the dining room. This year they took down the wall between the dining room and the bar area so from where we were seated all we heard was the large screen tv and loud noises from the bar patrons who had been drinking a great deal. Not very romantic and hard to enjoy a quiet dinner. The second night we waited for our reserved table for over 20 minutes. The hostess was new this year and asked if we wanted to sit in the bar for dinner instead of waiting, we proceeded to say no thank that it was as our anniversary and we would be happy to wait for the dining room. Previous years they would have had that info written down and wished us a happy anniversary upon checking in for dinner!
Another detail we missed. The hostess let us know our table was ready and she walked us past the area I had asked for (where there was an empty table and it was 8:15) and she took us through to the pine panelled area of the dining room. I mentioned to her again that it was our anniversary and we had asked to sit in the lower well area, she said we don't take special requests like that and we do not allow people to reserve tables. I mentioned again that I had called and asked and she said No and sat us down at a brightly lit table next to a family with 3 loud kids. Not the 20th anniversary dinner I had wanted! We had always reserved a table in the lower area for our anniversary dinner and it had not a problem. Another detail we missed! The dining room where we were seated that second night had all the light bulbs replaced over the winter, while I am sure they are energy efficient, the bulbs are really too bright and far from cozy or romantic. Our second day at the inn was cloudy and a little cooler, we always like to go in the hot tub before we dress for dinner. When we went to do that this year the pool area was padlocked shut and we could not use it nor was there a note about why the pool area was closed. Again we were frustrated with this detail, it is not inexpensive at the Ocean Point Inn but the food has always been wonderful, the staff pleasant and welcoming and all those things added up so you over looked the inn's shortcomings. There are simliarly priced places to stay in the area that feature far more ammenities but we had always loved the inn's charm before this past visit.
Needless to say our 11th summer at the Ocean Point Inn will probably have been our last. We are saddened that the old style maine summer traditions the inn was known for and the previously wonderful attention to detail that had made our annual annniversary trek wonderful, appear to be gone. We know the owners have stepped back and tried to retire however the new management style and staff are not the same. We are sad and will miss the Inn the way it was!

Room Tip: Ask for Ocean Front Room.

This was our first time going to Boothbay and we really enjoyed our time there. We picked Ocean Point inn because it gave us a view of the ocean. The setting of the inn was perfect. The room was nice and clean, food good and staff very friendly. The weather was perfect and warm for October. I would recommend this inn and would stay there again.

Room Tip: try and stay on a second level room, it would be less noisy

My husband and I stayed at Ocean Point Inn one night in September. Wow! what a gorgeous piece of real estate they have! We had an oceanfront room with a nice little deck - comfortable but not fancy, which is the way we like it. However, without going into unnecessary detail, I must say that the room and bathroom were dirty. The whole place felt like it was done for the season! We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the food was mediocre. Friendly people, great location, but buyer beware!

I stayed here with my girlfriend in the Large Queen Lodge Room with the private porch overlooking the ocean. The location and views are incredible and the staff was probably the friendliest we've ever encountered at any resort! Although it rained most of the time we still enjoyed the local town and its offerings. Our favorite was to grab a couple of beers and sit in the chairs lined up in front of the water! You just can't beat that view! Also, make sure to visit the pub and most importantly have the full hot breakfast - it is unbelievable! All the food was so fresh and absolutely delicious. Overall, we loved the resort and the town, East Boothbay/Boothbay Harbor, and we are looking forward to coming back!
