In the past couple of years I have come to use Daysinn motels when ever I travel as I always found them good value, clean, reliable and the inclusive wifi a bonus.

So when booking a last minute break I opted for another - mistake in choosing this particular one.

Arrived 15.05 to find a notice on receptions saying sorry not at desk ring bell for attention which I duly did, after 15 minutes I called only to get an answer phone, so took case to car walked dog and came back only to find still no one there at about 16.oo hrs the Macdonalds manager from the motorway services appeared - he sorted me getting checked in out but I had to wait a further 25 mins for his staff to come across the motorway to do it. So basically the hotel was unmanned and left unlocked for all and sundry to wander in not good for security as room door locks not best in world either.

Then had to return to reception to book dog in as no notes left for the macdonalds staff covering on how to do that, I was irritated to say the least that they said I had not paid for room, I forwarded the email from expedia to prove that expedia had taken the money.

The room smelt damp, and the vinyl in bathroom was bubbly in places and felt like damp or water under it as felt damp to walk on.

Yes it is cheap but under the brand of DaysInn I expected better that hostel standards.

The building was previously a travel inn so lacked the sound proofing of the Daysinn at Leicester or Wetherby or Coventry all of which you cannot hear the associated Motorway when in the rooms whereas Watfordgap it is intrusive to say the least and he double glazing does little to reduce the noise of conversations outside either

Room Tip: ask for one at the back of the motel, it may be quieter

A lot of motorway hotels are very corporate and this one is no exception. It was clean and adequate in all ways. What set it apart for me was the extremely friendly and helpful staff. It seemed as as though nothing was too much trouble. I had no reservation and walked in around 9.30 pm. The member of staff on duty was just so kind, they only had one room available so that was my choice. The bed was comfortable and the facilities in the room good, although nothing special. The only drawback was that the room had only one window which overlooked the main motorway parking area, as it was a very warm night I had to keep the window open for some air, which meant that I was subjected to a lot of traffic noise; the hotel itself was very quiet. I suspect the rooms at the rear of the hotel would have been a lot quieter. The breakfast system took me by surprise - by a voucher in the hotel and eat in the motorway service area. The food was nothing to write home about, it could certainly have been of a much better quality, but it was freshly prepared and my eggs were cooked right then and there in front of me. Again the staff were very polite and courteous and that made all the difference. To be critical I would say "get some better ventilation in the rooms" and "improve the quality of the food on offer".

Room Tip: pre book if possible asking for a room at the rear which does not overlook the car parking areas.

stayed here for the night on the way to F1 Silverstone. hotel was nice inside, and based on the Watford gap services. here there was a garage and café/shop/toilets. whilst staying here we drove into the nearest village and found a few lovely pubs. would stay again if needed an overnight stop

We stayed here for one night during the British F1 GP as it was only £40 per night and reasonably close to Silverstone. Our room was clean etc and we had no problems at all. As a previous reviewer mentioned it is not immediatley obvious how to find it if travelling north but I got instructions from the reception when we arrived so we could move the car. Not really as good as the Premier Inn chain but OK for a night.

Booked in here for an overnite. Given a room to the front facing the coach park. The room was clean and comfy. Noise from the m1 could be heard but did not disturb me much. The only downside to a motorway service area is breakfast is not included.

Very helpful staff, clean, comfortable and convenient. Tricky to find if you're driving north, you have to go through the lorry park, out the no entry sign, across the motorway bridge and through another no entry sign. Easy if you know how and they gave very good instructions when I phoned.

Room Tip: Don't know if there were rooms at the back of the hotel but at the front there was quite a lot o...

Although the Days Inn Hotel locations are conveniently located in the Services Areas on the M1, they are very poorly signposted in the services area, making them quite hard to find. On one occasion after we had driven around and around, the staff in the petrol station informed us that it was on the other (!!) side of the motorway! We stayed in 2 on our journey back and forth from Scotland, but this review is about the one at Watford Gap. The staff member at reception was very helpful and professional in her manner. The wifi service was fast, although required signing up to a system that was external to the hotel, asking for considerable personal details - not particularly acceptable (e.g. date of birth, address, phone number, email etc). The bed was poor - very bouncy and with a ridge along the middle of the double bed, with pillows needing replacing sometime ago. The walls are clearly not sound proofed with the person next door (or so it seemed) being very audible. The room was clean enough. The convenience factor is good, but the hotel itself is not one that we would choose to stay in again. At 45 pounds, this was not value for money.
