Wife and I had dinner on Saturday 31st May. I had Scampi and Chips, she had Roast Pork with all the trimmings. Followed by very nice sweets.. Well cooked, great service, good atmosphere, nice staff. Have been before many times and will go again. Best pub restaurant in Purbeck.

Went in early on a Tuesday (7pm) just after the first May Bank holiday without booking. Wasn't a problem because the place was empty bar a table of 6. Our family of 4 (2 girls aged 12 and 14) were warmly greeted and looked after really well during our stay. The atmosphere was somewhat lacking because of the absence of diners but actually we were fine with that at the time. The surroundings were pleasant enough and I could imagine it being a great place to dine when a bit more lively. We had the fish and chips (huge portions, very crispy batter and decent chips although the fish was a little undercooked but not so bad as to distract from enjoying the meal) and the girls had Scampi and chicken goujons. Standard fayre overall but no complaints from us. The only 'negative' comment I'd pass is that it seemed quite pricey overall but then we do live in the Midlands where the cost of living is lower and we are staying in one of the most popular and attractive villages in Purbeck so we should expect to pay a little more. Overall, I'd recommend this cosy pub.

Not dog friendly. We arrived as a mixed party, elderly and young, plus a very well behaved dog. we were told that dogs were not allowed. so moved on to a much more welcoming pub!!

With regard to you complaint about not allowing Dogs in to the New inn, does not mean we are not dog friendly, we provide fresh water for dogs, and dog food for sale, during the Summer months, and you are welcome to bring Dogs into our Garden and Alfresco dining area , as long as you keep them on a lead, To keep them on a lead is essential , for health and safety reasons, again because of the number of Dogs, and because there are families with small Children, and again the majority of people respect our request to keep their dogs under control
For 30 years we have not allowed dogs in our dining areas , because of customer complaints, we are next door to an animal sanctuary, and in a walking area, where just to many people bring dogs to allow them inside, It is not uncommon to have people or families here with as many as a dozen Dogs or more, at one time, and on occasions many more, for this reason it is not possible to allow dogs into the Pub, Over the years Pubs have become more Restaurant than Pubs and the New inn is no exception, where it is just not possible to have many Dogs in the dining areas,
Most people are understanding and respectful to our position over Dogs, and just because we operate a no Dogs policy, Does not give you the right to give our inn a 1 mark on trip advisor,
this web site is supposed to be for food drink customer experience, and service, , and you did not stay to experience , any of these things, Just because we have a no Dog inside rule,
This makes many more clients happy than it offends, and almost all clients are understanding, and tolerant of our position,
We have a safe car park where owners can leave their Dogs in cars, in View of the Garden and Bar, and a field to exercise their Dogs, as I said we offer fresh water and Dog food, during the Summer months, we offer much more Dog friendly service, than many Pubs where you are allowed to take dogs in to a Public Bar,

My family and I were in Dorset for the weekend, we went to the new inn for Sunday lunch..we were all very impressed with the carvery we have all had carvery's in many places before .this was the best.everything was hot. There was a choice of pork or lamb and eight veg to choice from.we all had sweets to follow again superb. The pub was very busy and I would think that it is always best to book. Next time in Dorset would visit again
