Owner description: Woodlawn is a 180-acre historic estate located a quarter mile from downtown Ellsworth, Maine. Once home to three generations of the Black family, it is now treasured for its historic house museum, its gardens, and its public park. Visitors can explore a superb historic house, stroll through beautiful gardens, play croquet, hike on pristine trails, and much more.

“Worth the visit”
Reviewed 26 June 2013

We were not sure about visiting Woodlawn as it seemed like it would be another old historical house. However, the home is filled with actual period furniture and the history about the Black's was very interesting. Yiu must use the walking tour wands to get the full history of the family and furnishings. The cost is minimal and woth it. The only negative is that if you follow your iphone directions you will not find the place. Use AAA or ask in town.

“No more Farmers Market”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

After local farmers have worked hard to maintain a YEAR-ROUND schedule of a weekly farmers market on the Woodlawn grounds. Woodlawn seems to have lost them. I wonder why?- certainly the commitment to this community offering was clearly demonstrated by our local growers and makers....

“Historical Jewel”
Reviewed 3 June 2013

Wonderful house packed with original furnishings, almost too much to take in with one visit. Hand held audio devices make it easy to tour at own pace. On Sundays have a farmers market on the back lawn

“Great Place to Walk Your Pet”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

I have grown up at the Black House, living right down the street as a youngster. There are awesome trails to walk, jog or ride your bike. There are even bags to clean up after your pet at the start of the trail. I have never personally toured the museum, but I have visited the gardens and they are amazing.

“Tucked away treasure!!”

If you're a history buff or simply love stepping back in time...Or if you're like my sister and I and adore Downton Abbey....step into Woodlawn and be transported back in time.
