The Baskerville is incredibly conveniently situated. It has a warm and charming feel. The rooms are adequate but certainly not luxurious. I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer than 3 nights. More attention could be payed to cleanliness and the bathrooms are not that great. The food is excellent and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good but over-priced.

Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay. Rooms were pleasant (apparently they are being modernised although they are, in our opinion, OK at present), bar and restaurant excellent, menu varied, breakfast exceptional and all the staff were attentive without being over bearing. Location perfect for walking along the Thames footpath. It is also very close to the local railway station if you want to venture further afield. If I were to find fault it would be some of the local clientele were so far up their own backsides they were revolting - they seem to spend the whole evening telling each other how important they were. Thankfully we were able to break away from having to listen to this drivel and enjoy all The Baskerville had to offer in a quieter corner.

We stayed for two nights, great quiet friendly village location, 2 miles along the Thames Path to Henley. Breakfast and dinner on both nights was very good. Menu was well thought out and had enough variation to keep two very different appetites happy. They are in the process of updating the rooms but they were very comfortable and had all you need and expect for the price. A very enjoyable stay.

We really enjoyed our short stay, an excellent stop on a very rainy day walking on the Thames Path. The pub was great open fires and very friendly welcoming staff. The rooms were very well appointed with everything you needed and the new king beds due to be installed will just add to the comfort.

Dinner was exceptional I particularly enjoyed the excellent very fresh fish and mussels. Breakfast was very good also.

We will stay again.

After just landing from Australia, we had a fabulous night here. A lovely comfortable room, great location just outside Henley and charming owner and staff. It was a memorable night. Dinner was cooked to our specific request with a family member who required a special diet and the chef came in early to cook breakfast before an early departure. Best breakfast we had during our stay in the UK. Thank you to all the staff - I hope that, one day, we can stay here again Would recommend to anyone.

I have to start by saying that the service at this pub hotel really was spectacular and I wish I could remember the name of the man who served us to give him the credit he deserves. The rooms were large and well equipped - we really appreciated the tea and coffee facilities together with sweets and biscuits in our room. They are still pub rooms - not new or plush, but very spacious and clean with everything you need. It was a little noisy at night time when trying to sleep until the pub cleared out but being a very nice pub it wasnt as noisy as a lot of pubs would be. The food was great - even if you are staying upstairs you still need to book a table for dinner as it is so popular. We really appreciated the staff leaving breakfast out for us in the morning as we had to leave very early - they even left us a little note. We really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Our room was called the Shiplake and was very large with a double and single bed. It had the bay win...

I felt like I was going back to the 1950s staying in a quaint village with a lovely railway station. The food was excellent, the room was good. All in all a good stay. Would recommend for people wanting a break away from bustle.

Oxfordshire Restaurant of the Year 2016. The Baskerville in Lower Shiplake remains a traditional village inn with a ‘proper’ bar, a delightful restaurant, 4 star accommodation, a beautiful garden and ambitions beyond its AA rosette. With Kevin Hannah and head chef Jamie Herridge at the helm, its outstanding customer service is matched only by its creative, seasonally changing menus. Fresh, ethically and locally sourced produce lie at the heart of its modern but classically based dishes which offer a memorable experience. 2015 Beautiful South Awards Silver Award in Tourism Pub of the Year. It is an AA 4 star Inn and is similarly rated by Visit England but with a Silver Award. It is situated on the Thames Path in the tranquil, affluent village of Lower Shiplake, with well appointed en-suite rooms, the Baskerville is the perfect place to stay the night either for Dinner, business or just for a leisurely break. The small town of Henley-on-Thames with its many interesting shops and home to the Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival is only 1.5 miles away. Enjoy a boat trip up the Thames or visit the River and Rowing Museum. Try a night at the Kenton theatre, the fourth oldest in England. Within the village why not stroll along to Shiplake lock and watch the river cruisers pass through.
