From the ride from the airport to the return trip to the airport...it was a nightmare! The rude driver made us nervous. We had been having such a good trip until our plane was delayed due to weather and our driver was MAD! (Like we had control over this)

The room was filthy and so far from the main reservation that getting our luggage to it was an Olympic event (no help available). No internet because of distance from router. The windows and doors had bars which resembled being put in a cage.

The staff at the desk double charged my credit card which I still have not got resolved.

The food was marginal.

Met a lovely couple from Florida who just got engaged and had bought their diamond at one of the mines. That was a bright spot in an otherwise GROSS OVERNIGHT.

Room Tip: Close to reception

Honestly our least favorite part of the trip- we only had to stay the one evening as a layover so we didn't get the full effect. However the hotel is not close to the airport (drive about 35 minutes) and the traffic in Jo-Burg is crazy (both in and out of the airport). The food was overpriced for a buffet and the cost of the room is high in comparison to others.
Given another chance at the same trip we would have saved ourselves the time and aggravation and stayed at the airport hotel.
That all being said- the staff were great, the grounds are very pretty and the location seems to be secure and gated. We felt very safe.

Room Tip: The bathroom in our suite was oddly arranged and made it difficult to get around- if there are any d...

This country manor is certainly something out of the ordinary, but upon closer inspection is seemingly tired.

The rooms are stylish but beckon maintenance. Such a pity, as this manor really must have been something excellent in its day. Service is great and friendly but is totally let down by the lack of maintenance.

I would really like to stay again but if so would need to look past the issues guests are faced with in the room. Perhaps a stringent rating scheme and some attention to greening would put Nyala back in its rightful place and justify the tariffs.

C'mon guys put some money into it before its too late.

We stayed a few days at the Country Manor before going on to the Zulu Nyala Lodge. We booked through Expedia so not sure if that is the reason our room was SO tiny and in a horrible location? Don't let them give you room 17. It's next to the public bathroom. And your outside courtyard view is the back of the kitchen with the crates. Our bathroom light did not work and could not get the bulb replaced to mid morning the next day. So had to use flight lights our first night. Luckily we brought one. The food is very good and the waitstaff are very friendly. Loved our meals there. Ate there every night. We went to the Lion Park and that is definitely worth the trip. Patrick was our driver there and to The Cultural Center. He's great and very knowledgeable regarding both locations. If you can, go to the Lion Park with Patrick on Sunday as that is when they feed the lions. If we come back to Johannesburg we would not stay at The Country Manor but would find a nicer place.

Room Tip: Not room 17. It is gross.

Stayed at the venue for two days for a workshop. Lovely setting, comfortable rooms, and adequate conference facilities. On the second day, I was not catered for, despite chef and staff being informed of my vegetarian diet.

Nice grounds with zebras roaming. Excellent food. Very nice staff. Zulu Nyala prepared itinerary and all airport pick-ups were as promised, a must since Johannesburg, as with all South African cities, are to toured cautiously and during day light hours. Country Manor is a 45-70 minute ride to the airport. Returning from Richards Bay and the Zulu Nyala Safari Lodge, South Africa Airlines did not bring luggage for most of the flight. They would not bring luggage to the hotel. We had to us the hotel shuttle to retrieve the luggage from the next flight. This extra airport trip cost $90.00 US.

Room Tip: South Africa Airlines should be avoided.

My mother and I stayed here for two nights after a long flight from London. The room was large and clean. Electric kettle for coffee or tea in your room. No iron in room, ask for one ahead of time. No plugs in bathroom. Main complaint was at lunchtime. It was supposed to be served from 12 - 230. Well both days we ate they were NEVER ready at noon. In fact a waitress told us that if we wanted a chicken sandwich( which was offered) the chicken was still frozen, so obviously it would be a while. The chef instead made us a grilled tomato and cheese sandwich because we didn't want to wait. The food WAS good when it arrived with a nice salad. Dinner was buffet one night and then our choice of two items the second night. It was very tasty. We had a great driver named Nao. He transported us to and from the airport and to the Lion Park. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds need a bit of work ( which looked like they were doing at the time). What made this place worth staying for us were the staff. They were all wonderful. Very polite and nice to talk to.
