Reviewed 15 October 2013

Nicely maintained Inn in Freeport, Maine. For business or leisure. Located near shopping area and the main LLBean Store. Afternoon reception, two restaurants with lounges. The five star " Maine Dinning Room" has superb food and 1st class service.
If you get the weekend "shopper's" package chose this restaurant and it's included for one night in the price of your room. Breakfast daily is also included.

How do you fault a place that had a nice room, nice food and nice staff. Just felt that the senior staff, in the breakfast dining room and at the front desk, made me feel that they were doing me a favour by letting me stay there. They just made me feel uncomfortable.

I'm so sorry you were made to feel uncomfortable at the front desk and in the dining room. Our staff is outstanding at guest services, always going above and beyond to make sure everyone's stay is excellent. I'm not sure who you mean by senior staff but I would like very much to get more details regarding your service. If you could email me directly at nadianichols@aol.com, I would appreciate it. Again, our apologies that we failed you in our hospitality and we will do all we can to make sure this never happens again.

We tried making dinner reservations. No luck. No one seems to answer the phone when we were switched to the dining room. Two hours trying. Also left our number and no one returned our call. Give me a break. Disorganized comes to mind.

Apologies for your lack of service! I've spoken to our Maine Dining Room manager and she did try to call you back twice and left an message on your answering machine. She was very busy that morning fielding multiple reservation requests for Thanksgiving, which take longer than most brunch or dinner reservations. We're very sorry she was unable to take your call in a timely fashion and will look into activating a second phone line for these busy reservation times.

The reception staff were faultless. Incredibly helpful and really went the extra mile to make our stay special. They even printed out travel directions based on a conversation which had taken place the previous night!!

We dined at the Tavern which was outstanding. The waitress was a star and looked after our every need.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the waiting staff at breakfast. Indifferent to the point of rudeness. Unforgivable even if they were extremely busy.

The room was lovely and quite spacious. It was a twin room with lovely large beds. However the room was showing its age a bit. The towels and robes were very worn and a tad yellow/grey to be honest. The bathroom was a little careworn too.

Don't let these negative points put you off. Well worth a visit, if only for the steamed lobster at the tavern!

Thank you for your comments. We've shared your observations with both the morning dining room staff and our housekeeping staff. Service in the dining room should always be welcoming and attentive and the towels and bathrobes in our guest rooms should be white and fluffy, and usually are. Guest room renovations are ongoing and primarily attended to in the off season. Unlike corporate hotels which can shut down and invest untold millions in complete make-overs (a luxury we can only dream of as a family owned inn!) we must manage these upgrades as best we can and we try to do our best. We have many projects planned for this winter! Our sincere apologies to you for any shortcomings you experienced during your last stay with us and we hope your next visit is perfect!

If you love a hotel with great service, very clean rooms, an on-site restaurant/ bar that serves great food & drinks, then you will love the Harraseeket Inn. Just steps to downtown Freeport and an easy drive to Portland, you have access to great shopping, art museums, and sightseeing. Hiking and outdoor activities are also nearby. After a full day, sit outside at the fire pit with a hot or cold drink. There is an indoor pool that we did not try but looked very nice. The breakfast was also good. Looking forward to returning in the winter to use the indoor pool.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us! You won't be disappointed if you visit Freeport in winter. There's lots to do thanks to L.L.Bean's Outdoor Discovery programs (x-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding) take a swim in our indoor pool or just cozy up to the fire with a good book. The sales at the village shops and outlet stores are excellent in the off season, too, and no crowds!. The museums in Brunswick at Bowdoin College are not only very close by, but very very good. Room rates at the inn are better, too. We have some great packages available in our off season. Thank you for your review and we hope to see you again this winter!

Stayed with a friend and her dog for the first time at Harraseeket and a very beautiful spot it is, friendly staff, great food in the tavern and wonderful breakfast. My only complaint was the room needed some scrubbing around the door frames and the blinds in the bathroom absolutely filthy. Soap and water easy fix. Would I stay again, yes, loved the place, everything else great.
Perhaps because it's the pet section doesn't get as much attention but still the decor and bath very nice.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback and will definitely share your comments with our housekeeping staff. Every room at the inn should be spotlessly clean, no exceptions, and our housekeepers try very hard to meet and exceed guest expectations. We apologize for our lapse and hope that the next time you visit, you'll find everything in order!

One of the joys of travelling is the occasional chance find and the Harraseeket Inn is just such a place. Arriving in Freeport without knowing anything about the place we happened upon the Harraseeket and decided to try it rather than sample the usual chain hotels on offer. From the outset the charm and ambiance of the place vindicated our decision and we enjoyed a very nice evening meal in the restaurant with good wine and excellent service. Our room was fairly standard but lacked tea and coffee making facilities. Otherwise a very nice independent hotel.

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor. We're delighted you found us and glad you enjoyed your stay! While in the process of installing flat screen LCD TV's on the walls of our guest rooms, we re-purposed the tops of the armoirs (which use to hide the old TV's) to house small refrigerators and coffee/tea makers. It sounds as if your room didn't have that set up? We'll look into that! We put coffee out in the drawing room at six am for early risers but it's an added convenience having it in the rooms as well. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
