“New England Charm”
Reviewed 18 October 2007

My husband I recently returned from a fall foliage driving tour of New England. Our first stop consisted of two nights at the Brewster House Bed & Breakfast in Freeport, Maine. We could not have asked for a lovelier place. Ruth and Scott made us feel right at home from the moment we stepped in the door. Candies are placed in the foyer for “anytime” snacking. Coffee is available all day in the dining room, as well as an assortment of teas, hot chocolate, and cider. During our stay there was an assortment of home made cookies offered along with the beverages. All of these wonderful treats were complimentary. A shared guest refrigerator is available on the second floor, as well as wine glasses and a bottle opener.

We stayed in room four, which was beautifully adorned with a queen four-poster bed and antique furniture. The room was impeccably clean and the bed was very comfortable. Our bathroom was equally nice. We had lots of windows, which we left open to enjoy the mild fall weather. Although the Brewster House is on a main road, we were able to sleep pleasantly with the windows open.

The Brewster House is wonderfully located and it is only a short walk to the L.L. Bean stores and other fine shopping and restaurants. Plenty of spacious parking made it easy to leave the car and walk.

The breakfasts were delicious and very filling. Ruth and Scott offered lively conversation and wonderful advice for what to see and where to eat in the area.

All in all, we had a wonderful stay at the Brewster House Bed & Breakfast and would love to stay there again if we return to the area.

I have just returned from a vacation in Maine. We drove, and enjoyed many places in Maine throughout our trip, including several lighthouses, the changing colors, etc. We spent our last 3 nights at Brewster House Bed & Breakfast in Freeport, ME. We had heard about this B&B through a Freeport publication I received in the mail, with no other recommendation, and it worked out perfectly.
Our stay there was absolutely wonderful. Ruth and Scott have made it a beautiful and comfortable "home" for all of us travelers. We had certain requirements - a first floor room with 2 beds) and they were able to accommodate us, where most B&B's can't. The room was beautifully decorated. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was very large.
Brewster House is conveniently located within walking distance to many of the stores in Freeport - including L.L. Bean, where we spent one full day and evening!!
OK, now let's talk about the breakfast part of this Bed and Breakfast!! All three breakfasts we had there were absolutely yummy. They were so good that I I did everything but lick the plates....only because I thought that would be tacky!! Ruth is very creative with her menus, and she is a darn good cook. Even the coffee they make is good.
In the afternoons/evenings, there were always treats out waiting for us. On our first night, there were cookies. We took a couple each.....and after eating them, we were tempted to go back and just take the whole container....but we resisted.
Our stay at the Brewster House B&B went beyond my expectations. If I am ever in Maine again, I will definitely return to the Brewster House. AND, I will recommend this B&B to anyone and everyone who will be in or around the Freeport, ME area.

We just returned from a trip to Maine. We decided to stay at a bed and breakfast for the first time and chose the Brewster House Bed & Breakfast. The house was delightful. All of the rooms are spacious, clean and have nice sized bathrooms. The bed in the room we stayed in (Room 3) was heavenly (Queen size and nice and firm). We paid $175 per night, which we felt was reasonable, considering that we were at the start of peak season.

They have the perfect location in Freeport, Maine. It is not far off of Route 295 and it is within walking distance to all of the great shops and restaurants in town. Ruth and Scott, the Innskeepers, were so nice. Their hospitality was great!! It was almost as if we were visiting family.

The breakfast was incredible. We started out with vanilla oranges (fresh oranges with a hint of vanilla with a dab of fresh whipped cream). Then they served warm cranberry and orange muffins. They were so flavorful!! For the main entree, they served a three cheese quiche, hashbrowns and sausage. Of course coffee, tea and an assortment of juices were also available. The breakfast just sealed the deal on the stay. During breakfast, we had a nice conversation with Ruth and Scott. They are so personable. It felt like we had known them for years.

We hated to leave, but had other places to visit. We can say in all honesty that out of the three places we stayed while in Maine, the Brewster House Bed & Breakfast was by far the best. This Bed & Breakfast is very first class. We really felt like we were at home without all of the hustle and bustle. The next time we visit Maine, the Brewster House Bed and Breakfast will be at the top of the list of places to stay.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Brewster House B&B earlier this month. It is a lovely home, beautifully decorated. Our bedroom was wonderful, with two comfortable chairs by a lovely bay window, very comfortable bed and an enormous bathroom. Ruth and Scott are very friendly, knowledgeable hosts and had great recommendations for dinner and shopping. Brewster House is in a wonderful location, just a short walk to the LL Bean stores and the other shops. Breakfast was fantastic, delicious and well served. We would love to return to this wonderful place whenever we're next in the area.

  • Liked — Comfortable room, great location, fantastic breakfasts

My Wife and I stayed at Brewster house on our first and second trips to Maine. Our original plan was to travel through New England then head south to Washington DC, however, because of Mainers like Scott and Ruth we only made it to Connecticut. The people and places changed for the worse the farther we got from Maine, so we turned around and went back into New England by a different route and stayed our last couple nights at, you guessed it, Brewster House.
There are many aspects to making a vacation stay enjoyable and Scott and Ruth are experts at providing service and making you feel at home. Ruth becomes your best friend when you first meet her, a good asset since she is a great cook. The large tasty breakfasts start your day off with a full tank good for the short walk to Beans and the many other shops in the downtown area. Scott is a wealth of information and will gladly provide maps to lighthouses, beaches, historic sites and anything else you are interested in. We didn’t have to walk past the front yard to watch the 4th of July parade. I may not be an architect, but I am a thinker, and the architecture both inside and out appears authentic, however, I doubt that each room had its own large bath when it was built. A tree visible from “Our room” is the first in the neighborhood to change color this year.
The sad part is that we may never stay there again. We fell in love with Maine, thanks in no small part to Scott and Ruth and less than 9 months after our first visit we are now Mainers.

On a resent trip to Freepoint my husbamd and I and another couple stayed at brewster house. We were made very welcome as soon as we arrived ( even though we were quite late checking in) and found the house to be very homely. The rooms are basic enough but are decorated very much in keeping with the style of the house. Attention to detail in the restoration of the house is evident. We were pleasantly surprised by the fabulous home cooked breakfast. The lady of the house is definitely a cook to be admired. Her homemade butterscotch scones are mouth watering. My only regret is that I didn't ask for the receipe. If we return to freeport at any time we will definitely stay at brewster house again. We highly recommend this B & B and the town itself is also well worth a visit.
