“A COUNTRY PUB THAT SERVED EXCELLENT FOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2013

My wife and I have been visiting The Plough for years. This is an unpretentious country pub that serves food. Gene, the landlord is always friendly and helpful. We seldom see Debbie as she slaves over the hot stove to great effect producing excellent meals. We have never had a bad meal or bottle of wine there. Gene obviously takes pride in his choice of vino. I'm not a beer drinker but the occasional pint has always been excellent. Top-notch.

“Pleasant evening meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2013

This was a totally on-spec visit - we simply saw the place and decided to call in. First of all, it is the cleanest place we have visited in a very long time - so top marks there!

Its great strength is that it does not pretend to be a gastronomic paradise and then fail on delivery. It is simply a decent, family-run pub with decent beer and platefuls of freshly-cooked food at acceptable prices. Just the way it was when village pubs were in their heyday - no dayglo posters or sell-out to the world of fashionable product marketing. Carpets and a warm fire on a cold night added favourably to our overall experience.

There is a lot of competition around from glitzy 'chain' pubs - give this one a go instead.

“Warm, Cosy and Excellent Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2013

As soon as you enter The Plough Inn, you are welcomed with a warm and cosy atmosphere. The service is top class and there are plenty of real ales to choose from.
In addition to the menu there is a specials board and a word of warning as the portions are plentiful. The food is home cooked, piping hot and excellent value for money.
Thoroughly recommended.

“Plough Inn means business.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2012

This terrific little pub is the perfect advertisement for breaking up the large brewery owned pub chains and giving all the pubs to people who really want the job of being a landlord.

As soon as you enter the Plough Inn, you immediately get that warm cosy feeling that is increasingly absent from most modern British boozers. Yes of course it helps that the Plough is in the middle of the lovely little village of Caldecott, but the main thing is that it's owner managed. The landlord therefore has more than just a casual interest in the success of the business and as a result is genuinely pleased to see you. Now I have no idea whether a friendly welcome has an impact on the taste of beer but I thoroughly enjoyed my pint of 'Goats Milk' after a day at Rutland Water.

You certainly wouldn't describe the Plough as a gastro pub but if you want good quality & good value tradtional food, with some interesting twists then you'll be more than happy with what's on offer here.

We combined a stay at one of the local b&b's, the unrelated Plough b&b opposite with a night in the Plough Inn after a day exploring rural Northamptonshire & Leicestershire and had a fabulous time.

“An absolute gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2012

Visited this pub on Saturday 21st May 2012 with 7 friends. Excellent reception from the very friendly landlord who, although we were strangers even apologised if the televised football might disturb us. Well kept local ales on tap and the meal was so good we are still talking about it. Value for money was outstanding. The pub has an uninviting exterior but inside the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The regular users probably dont want this gem to become popular with passing trade but if we are in the area again, it will be top of our list for a repeat visit.
