“Lovely place to eat after a hard days fishing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2014

Last summer we stayed in caldecott as we were fishing at Eyebrooks Reservoir and we ate at The Plough 5 out of 7 nights, gene was always pleased to see us, and by the end of the week we felt like locals, There is a very varied and extensive menu, and the portion are indeed large, the sweets are to die for, so be prepared to undo your top button, and Ladies wear a elastic waisted skirt. We shall be visiting The Plough again this year as we are fishing again at Eyebrooks. Looking forward to it very much, See you soon Gene XX Chris and Daryl Critchley East Sussex

“Our first visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013

Today we had lunch for the first time at the Plough after it had been recommended by friends. Service was friendly. There was a fair choice of food on offer. I had roast turkey which was succulent & tasty while the others had roast lamb which they also enjoyed. I don't do dessert & would have liked to finish my meal with cheese & biscuits but unfortunately this was not available. The men enjoyed their sponge pudding & custard though - real man's dessert was the comment!

“Something went wrong with us then??”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013

Arrived at Caldecott to stay in a holiday cottage and was planning on using the Plough inn as our 'local' but after our first visit we decided not to bother. We entered the Plough at 7 pm and asked if we could order some food and drinks. We were told by the barman that it may take 30 minutes as he had just seated some people. He did offer us to stay and buy some drinks but because of the gorgeous evening we decided to take a stroll round the village to pass the 30 minutes. When we entered for a 2nd time we again asked if we could order a meal and drinks, this time he asked where would we like to sit, we both chose a small 2 seater table by the window. Our food order was taken at 7.30 pm , 20 minutes later we thought this would be worth the wait, as we presumed the delay was due to our food being freshly prepared. Another 20 minutes later my partner was offering to pop back to our cottage and bring back some cheese and biscuits to nibble on as we waited for our food to arrive as we had not been notified by any staff member about why our food was taking so long. I declined my partners offer but was tempted. Food finally arrived after 45 minutes of the order been taken. Food was served by a sheepish waitress who could not look us in the eye and we thanked her for the food. We both tucked in to our long awaited meals and after a few mouthfuls we just looked at each other and thought this food is not worth the 45 minute wait. I had the Lasagne and chips which was ok but nothing special and my partner said his creamy pasta with chicken & bacon was uninteresting and quite frankly bland considering the time they took to prep it. 15 minutes later the barman came to collect our plates and apologised for the delay, what caused that delay we still do not know. We paid our bill and left and walked 10 minutes to another bar for a few drinks to enjoy Al fresco.

“Traditional pub with good honest food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2013

We were two on a busy Saturday night without a reserved table. We were given a nice welcome on arrival, seated and then our drinks were promptly served at the table.
A very pleasant young lady took our food order and explained the side dish options. Our starter of breaded mushrooms was very nice, but the accompanying garlic mayonnaise was a little sour (we think from vinegar, rather than being off). Our main courses were scampi served with salad, and gammon with fried egg and new potatoes. Portions were more than adequate and only one of us managed a dessert - a delicious, generous sized serving of sticky toffee pudding with custard.
The bill was presented promptly when requested and payment taken within minutes. All in all, a very pleasant experience and one we are likely to repeat.
If you like traditional English pub grub, then the Plough is certainly worth a try.
