“HORRIBLE Bed & Wonderful Breakfast”
Reviewed 26 October 2010

This B&B had the worst bed of our whole trip. The mattress was just awful. You could hear and feel the springs on it ! We stayed in the sewing room, maybe since this room is the smallest it gets the crappiest bed? For this place charging so much a night you would think that the beds would be better then they are. Also the sheets are very "commercial" feeling, thin.
The window coverings were sub par at keeping out the streetlights.

The bathroom for this room is the size of a closet! I am not joking, it looks like it was actually a closet at one time. The shower is a stand up and only about 3x3 feet.

The food was excellent, the breakfasts were made to order and the service was great. Dinner was also wonderful but a little pricey. Drinks were also very good.

Overall the place looks pretty nice, the rooms are nicely decorated and the grounds are nice. There is a very good view of the mountains from the rear of the property. The Inn dogs are very friendly and fluffy!

I would NOT recommend this place to stay but it would be worthwile going for lunch or dinner, reservations recommended for dinner

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your dining experiences with us! We both have a passion for food and enjoy sharing this with our guests. We regret that you did not find the bed comfortable in the Sewing Room. It is on the list to be replaced in November '10. You are actually correct in your assumption that the shower used to be a closet! Our inn, designed by famous architect John Calvin Stevens in 1913, originally had all four guest rooms sharing the only bath! In-room vanities have been added, with closets being transformed to accommodate a private shower and toilet, thus utilizing the space we have without completely compromising the historical architecture of the inn. Two guest rooms were combined to form our Porch Room suite, which offers a larger bathroom with two person tub and separate tiled shower. We appreciate your honest feedback!

My partner and I came here to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. I had called ahead to arrange for flowers, chocolates and a card to be placed in our room upon arrival, and everything was as I had hoped for, and then some. Our room (the porch room) was very comfortable, and the inn itself was very cozy. We ate in the tavern the first night and in the restaurant the second night, and the food and service were excellent. We hope to return sometime!

We had 3 generations stay in Room #1: Grandma, Mom, Teenage Son. We thought we'd hate staying in one room together but it ended up being the best 2 days ever.....Natalie and Jonathan, the Innkeepers, are so warm and hospitable that it felt just like home....we never even locked our door. We had the best breakfast we've ever had and coming from a family of proud cooks, that is impressive! The rooms were decorated with every simple elegance and comfortable beds. The exterior grounds were gorgeous and I'm a Landscape Designer...they did great! Highly recommended!

A great place to stay! The rooms, the friendliness of the staff, the food--all of it was fantastic, but what I loved the most was sitting out on the dining room sun porch admiring the view while I enjoyed a scrumptious meal. Will definitely be going back.

The Oxford House in was just what we needed!
The Porch Room was wonderful - with a nice sitting area, separate tub/ shower ,
The Pub downstairs was terrific. A great space for casual eating and drinking --
We needed an early meal (so as to make a show at the Stone Mountain Arts Center which is close by in Brownfield). WERE WE SURPRISED! The food was incredible. Variety, wonderful preparation, just terrific.
And in the morning, the breakfast, was again, such a treat! Jonathan is a wonderful chef . -- and the view from the eating area was a treat (fields and mountains)
Natalie and Jonathan made our visit welcoming, comfortable and deeelicious.
I will recommend this spot to our friends, and plan on returning!

My husband and I eloped at the Oxford House Inn on March 12, 2010. It was absolutely the perfect, stress free, comfortable yet elegant wedding that I dreamed of. We arrived on Thursday and were greeted by Natalie and her two adorable/friendly dogs. We enjoyed great drinks (Natalie's Favorite Cosmo was delicious!) and tasty mussels downstairs in Jonathon's, which is a really cool, hip bar and lounge area. Great food in a more relaxed setting than their two fine dining rooms.

Friday evening we eloped in the back yard, overlooking the beautiful white mountains, Natalie and her husband were our witnesses and were nice enough to take some pictures for us too. We had dinner in the dining room after our brief ceremony. It was absolutely delicious! Service was perfect, attentive but not too attentive. We enjoyed the pork bellies with risotto, which was definitely the best appetizer I've had in a long long time.

Our room was great, just the right size with a king size bed, 2 overstuffed chairs for lounging and a nice size flat screen TV to watch some TV or a movie. The breakfasts were great too, a nice little menu and you could choose from 3 options each day. My husband raved about the coffee and the view from the breakfast dining room is breathtaking.

Overall a great experience, I would come back in the winter to try snowmobiling (rentals are right next door) or in the summer to enjoy the White Mountains more!
