The Mooring Bed and Breakfast

Our stay at The Mooring was an anniversary gift. We could not have chosen better. Penny is the best, as chef [can't decide if her blueberry scones or blueberry muffins are my favorite], as concierge [all her recommendations for touring or dining were terrific], her inn is meticulously clean and beautifully furnished [she's thought of everything], and, as a new friend. We promise to return again and again.

When my family wanted to get out of Boston, The Mooring was the only place on the Maine coast we would go. The rooms are meticulous (no TV, which is totally fine) and all have a perfect view of the Maine coastline. You are lulled to sleep by the waves outside. There are different styles of rooms for different kinds of travelers-double beds, twins, first and second floor, balcony and without.

There is a beautiful sitting room where you can watch a variety of DVDs or bring your own. There is a good chance you will fall asleep on the comfy chairs. I spend a lot of time on the porch or the sunroom. Outside there are a bunch of adirondack chairs to sit and watch the lobster boats or read a book. It is a great place to get cut off from the rest of the world and be forced to relax.

In addition to the lodgings, the breakfast is AMAZING. Fresh, delicious, made with local ingredients. Penny makes you feel at home and is accomodating of requests both food and lodging-wise. She is both around when you need her, but also has a great sense of when you need alone time as well.

If you are going to be in the area, or just need a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life, I highly recommend The Mooring.

Room Tip: There are different rooms with different themes. Ask for a description of each before booking.

a really lovely place, superb views, lovely setting.
Penny keeps the place immaculate, and the finish is top notch.
Free beer and cookies in the evening really make you feel at home!
Breakfast was equally brilliant.
thanks Penny!

We stayed at the Mooring B+B June 24th through the 27th 2013. There are 5 rooms overlooking the ocean, a gorgeous rocky view with islands, pines, lobster boats, that hard to describe deep nautical scent of cold ocean water. We stayed in the Reid room, which also has a balcony, a queen sized comfortable bed, and nice design touches everywhere. Penny, the host of The Mooring, and is the great granddaughter of Walter Reid, the man responsible for bequeathing nearby Reid State Park, to the state of Maine. She has that uncanny ability to be there, but not intrusive, full of local knowledge, and makes some yummy breakfasts and provides snacks throughout the day. The Mooring is the former residence of Walter Reid, and is filled with momentos of his time, everywhere you look is a gorgeous piece of ceramics, silverware, paintings, many many things to admire. We felt at home but, wow, what a home. Nearby is Reid State park, I think one of the worlds great beaches for walking, Five Island Lobster Co., fresh lobster served outside, yummmm, and Georgetown pottery, which Penny also uses at her B+B. This is a secluded unspoiled piece of Maine worth a visit. Let your senses take it in.

This is a "must go!" The Mooring B&B is wonderful! The ocean view is to die for! The rooms are beautiful and comfortable! The breakfast is delicious! We love staying at B&B's and Penny has created the one of the best we have ever been to. AND, the location is wonderful! Georgetown is an out of the way small community BUT Five Islands lobster at the end of the road will definitely be on you way to a great lobster dinner!

Jen and I just spent 4 days at Penny's this month where we have visited faithfully once or twice a year for maybe six years or so? She never disappoints with her fantastic breakfasts and wonderful accommodations. We typically stay in the room on the first floor with its private balcony and it has been our "home away from home". My wife and I love the ocean and you can't find a better place on the Maine coast to hear the waves and see the sunrises each morning. The guests we have met there have always been very interesting - this visit they ranged from Michigan to Florida to Australia! If you are interested in a great relaxing place to stay with beautiful views, great breakfasts (and did I mention those blueberry muffins?) make arrangements today to make it your next vacation spot. It's like they say about potato chips, "you can't eat just one". If you stay and the Mooring you will be back again and again and again!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great!

I couldn't have asked for more. The owner Penny Barabe promptly answered all questions and was very easy to work with. The food was amazing, my friends are still raving about it a month later. The view/setting was unmatched. And most importantly, our families got to hang out all weekend at the house as if it were our own. My two-year-old niece even said "I live here. This is my home now!" It definitely felt homey. And a special thanks to the caretaker/cook Margaret who kept me company on the early hours of my wedding morning, while no one else was up and she was making blueberry muffins! We've talked to couples who go back there every year and now we will too.

Room Tip: The room downstairs has a private balcony overlooking the ocean. But all rooms have ocean views and...
