I am an Amato's aficianado. However this is not the best link in the chain. In most ways, they are comparable to the other Amato's, but their staff is highly variable. Their mid-morning staff usually works hard and is attentive, but after 3:00 it seems as if you're taking a gamble. I have had not an inconsiderable number of botched orders. If you order only standard sandwiches, you will probably be fine. Their standard food is excellent, their Original Italian is wonderful, of course, their pazzo bread is very nice. Like all Amatos' they sell convenience store items. Their salads are excellent. It's simply their staff which needs regimenting. All in all, if you know their ins and outs, you caould certainly do worse - but that in itself tells you something.

Unlike many - this Amato's has seating, for those that wish to have a seat and eat.

Not like every region's "italian", the Maine Italian is light and full of vegetables. Amato's makes the best rolls, and every sandwich is made fresh to order, even down to slicing the veggies.

My husband and I were a little hesitant to try Amato’s as it appeared to be chain based out of Portland, Maine. We are not fans of chain restaurants as we prefer to eat at locally-owned establishments. With few options available to us that evening in Gorham, we decided to try the chain restaurant that was founded 105 years ago. Upon entering, one notices the huge glassed-in refrigerators with a bountiful of beverage choices. This includes beers, wine, sodas, and bottled water. There is ample seating off to the left side. The choices of Italian food was overwhelming. My husband and I both ended up with their Eggplant Parmigana sandwich. It was absolutely delicious with a great tasting marinara sauce. If you want some of their marina sauce to take home, they have bottles of it for sale. The place claims to deliver “only the best tasting and freshest meals daily”, and we wholeheartedly agree. While you in Gorham, you can count on Amato's for a great tasting meal at an inexpensive price.
