If you only do one thing while visiting Moosehead Lake go on the Moose Safari with Chris. I recommend booking the trip early as he was turning people away when we went in mid-July. I would also recommend the early morning trip over the afternoon. Chris picked us up at our B&B right on schedule and we drove 30 minutes along scenic roads in his pick-up to a pristine backwoods pond. Keep your voices down as you get into the canoe so as not to disturb the sleeping loons. Simply being on that pond at sunrise with the fog rising off the water would have been worth the price of admission. On our trip, we saw two young bull moose feeding in the shallows and observed each for 20 minutes or so. My wife is currently getting her best moose photo framed. The loon pictures turned out great as well. As others have said, Chris is a moose expert (in Louisiana we'd call him a naturalist) and a gentleman. He may have an equal in the North Woods but no superior. Additionally, Chris charges substantially less than what our B&B wanted to charge us for booking a similar trip. We're already planning a future fall trip to see moose at higher elevations.
