“Stuck in the mud”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

The hospitality was great as they were very helpful to give us information on the best places to go hiking and fishing but the tent sites were horrible. It had been raining for a few days before our check in date and it made our sites extremely muddy. We could not park our vehicles into the campsites due to all the mud and we were walking in mud the entire stay. It was also too close to the road for us so we were hearing all the traffic.

It was after dark and raining when I called and they "opened up" to check me in a little later. There are not tons of options in these parts, but I will say this is a great one and provides everything you need. I was tent camping and the sights were fine, kind of your typical "car camping" campground. The price was reasonable, under $25 and the showers were warm in the morning. My only thoughts were some of the recommendations she gave were a bit conservative. ie she cautioned me on the the road to Gulf Hagas and didn't think I would be able to get through... and it turned out to be fine. Obviously she can't be an expert on everything in the area and was passing on feedback she had heard, but there are not a ton of travel options in these parts so a "road change" could chew up a day of travel.

Room Tip: Call or get there before dark!

This is a very quiet "old fashioned" campground and is one of our favorite spots. It is strictly "no frills." Lilian and Bob are gracious and helpful hosts with lots of customized printed materials and recommendations for their guests. The sites are large and offer privacy. The bath house is very clean and simple. We'll be back.

We spent two nights at this campground and liked it a lot. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms, which include free showers and electric outlets, were kept pretty clean. We chose site #21, which was wooded and fairly private. The fire rings have a grate over top for cooking. They had a little camp store to sell ice, firewood, etc. The location was just perfect for us - less than a mile to the town of Greenville and Moosehead Lake. We spent most of the time exploring the area and found this campground to be in a great location to do so. The campground itself is quite small, which we liked a lot because it meant the sites weren't on top of one another and it was quieter. Even though there were several RVs we never heard them running their generators at night (which I hate). The one downside was the mosquitoes, which were quite bad. Just make sure to bring bug spray and you'll be fine. Once we built a fire for the night they stayed away. Overall we really liked this place and would highly recommend it.

We stayed at Moosehead Family Campground for 1 night and were very pleased with the facilities. They had excellent campsites, including one we stayed in with a lovely apple tree. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed this place more than a lot of the State Parks we later camped in. Moosehead Family Campground had better bathrooms, showers, and overall facilities than the State Parks. I highly recommend A++

There were many RVs here, but several tents too. The owners were friendly and extremely helpful in finding good routes to get to our hikes. The tent site we stayed at was large and nestled under trees, very cozy. We were not far from the bathrooms (no flush toilets). There’s a game room facility that we did not use. The owners provide weekend morning coffee – a nice treat!

We have been going to Moosehead Family Campground every summer for the past several years. The owners, Bob and Lillian, are always welcoming. The campground is well maintained and the bath houses are spotless. Quiet time is enforced, and loud, rude language/behavior is not tolerated, making this truly a FAMILY campground. It is located 5 mins from Moosehead Lake and a short drive to great fly-fishing or rafting on the Kennebec River. We've already booked our 2010 visit. It's a great place to stay!
