We are a retired couple, love to cook, and are able to judge good food. After a long days drive the desk clerk at the Quality Inn in Augusta suggested that there was a new Italian restaurant we might like. We decided to give it a try and were we ever pleased. The service was polished and friendly. The owners made a point to visit each table and make sure we were satisfied. In addition to well-prepared entrees we received a complimentary bruschetta with our drinks and a lemon palate cleanser before our entrée. The serving size is ample and we enjoyed what we couldn’t eat for lunch the next day. The décor needs some work to be warmer and more intimate. Some of the ceiling lights could have been dimmer.

Our evening, with another couple, was overall excellent. Our server, Elixzabeth was knowledgeable and personable with attentive service. The staff looked and acted very professional, veryy lookign,(no spaters on shirst) well rpessed shirts and well put together. We were seated promptly and liked the atmosphere, a bit close, but a nice activity level, not stuffy at all. The wine selection by glass was skimpy. Bread and dipping sauce were pedestrain The Caesar salad was lacking..just a bed of lettuce, could have been more robust. Service from the kitchen for our entree was very slow. Our server was attentive bringing us a few additioanl appretizers. Entrees of Lobster Ravioli veal marsala and veal picatta were wonderful..fresh tasting. flavorful, nice portions and very well preapred. The veal was excellent, easily cut with a fork. Flavor was very good...the best veal we have had in Maine. desert selction was limited, but very very good..nice freash taste. Appreciated that the chef came to our table. The effort of our servers, overall qualty of food and effrort of the chef all sugest this is a restaurant serious about developing a quality product...we appreciated our meal and we're already planning our next visit.

Francesca's is brand new and great...the atmosphere is cozy. The waitstaff was fast, freindly, and thorough but the best thing about this place is the food...HOLY COW....the Italian antipasto and the pasta were heavenly...then, the swordfish was mouth watering and then we split three desserts....worth every calorie. The chef is named Francesca she came out and greeted us and told us about her special dishes...very friendly....I will eat at Francesca's again and again and I have recommended it to several friends!!! Loved it!!!

Sorry, I always hope that new local businesses succeed -- but they have to at least seem to have their act together. This place is like the school play where nobody has learned their lines...
The atmosphere wavers between bland and annoying, and was very noisy. The service was all over the place -- some of the staff seem to know what they're doing, some seem to forget that they're supposed to be gracious and hospitable. Doesn't seem to have any sense of proper table service overall. Wait staff look sloppy, not snappy in their white shirts and black slacks, and the host looks like an accountant who's lost his way and is hanging out in the lobby of the place.
All of these things could just be considered "lovable quirks" if the food was cheap, or if the food was consistent, or if the food was really tasty -- but as a diamond in the rough it is hard to swallow. Watery alfredo sauce, stone-cold bread, chilly pasta entrees (that are supposed to be warm), a soup that came off like a bowl of boiled potatoes... again, great service could have made it better, but the service was what you'd expect at a lunch counter and not welcome given that these are not lunch counter prices.
It was also annoying that everything -- hot and cold, cold and cold, whatever -- all arrived within a few minutes of one another, creating a sense of chaos amid the din.
This is one of those places where you don't want to go if its an important date when you want everything to be 'just so.' Definitely hit or miss.
