I decided to book a romantic getaway for me and my girlfriend on Valentine's Day. I knew that Maple Hill was the right place because they advertise their environmentally friendly energy practices (my girlfriend works in environmental policy).

Nearly everything about the place was perfect: the beds were comfortable; the food was delicious and fresh from the farm; there was a sauna and hot tub; a personal hot tub in the room; and it was a stone's throw from Augusta and about an hour from Portland. Although we didn't set foot in Augusta, we made a day trip to Portland, which was nice, and we did go out twice in downtown Hallowell.

The town area of Hallowell is quaint and has tons of great stuff including a brew pub/restaurant, a bakery, and several antique shops and book stores. Coming from a very industrial and box-store-rife area, it was a breath of fresh air to see local businesses and family-run stores thriving. The community was absolutely lovely, and we met some great people there.

The staff at Maple Hill was just wonderful. They were extremely amiable and helpful with places to see and things to do. The innkeepers were filled with tons of good suggestions and always spared a moment to humor our questions about environmental practices and policy at Maple Hill and in Maine. The chef was soft-spoken and very pleasant always cooking a stellar meal. And, finally, the barn worker agreed to show us the chickens, cows, sheep...and lamas. Admittedly, I wasn't as excited about this as my girlfriend, but it was an experience to see them up close. It really made my girlfriend happy, and they were pretty darn cute.

All in all, we had a GREAT stay even in the cold and snow! My only complaint was that we didn't stay longer! I definitely recommend this place for a quiet getaway!

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was isolated. The only thing we heard was our neighbor's whirlpool while w...

We went there for a convention and decided to stay the night before. Very cozy place not too far off the turnpike and close to restaurants. It was very quiet. Rooms were clean. Most rooms have their own bathroom. It was the dead of winter but the views were nice. Staff friendly and helpful. Each guest gets a tour of the place. They have a full bar. The breakfast was very good. They do a great job and I hope we can get back for another visit whether for a convention or not.

My husband and I were concerned about the privacy level of staying at a bed and breakfast but chose to take the chance because of the many amenities Maple hill farm had to offer. We were not disappointed at all. From the moment we arrived we felt as though we were in our own home, Scott was so welcoming, giving us a tour, and explaining how Maple Hill Farm functions. We never felt as though we were being hovered over though. Along with the wonderful amenities listed on their website there were many other personal touches in our room when we arrived to make us feel special, chocolates, homemade soaps, free deserts, and bath salts to name a few. Though it is located a heartbeat away from Augusta, Maine you truly feel as though you are in the county. I don't even have time to get into Scott's drinks from the bar or Vince's farm fresh breakfast :) 5 star stay. We can't wait to get back!

We returned to Maplehill sure of a warm personal welcome. Every time we visit we are surprised by additions to the individual services that have been added for the comfort and enjoyment of guests. We have been delighted over the years to stay in different rooms ,each having their individual character and high level of " little niceties" which contribute to making the stay memorable. The guest kitchen is unique in our experience and really makes the difference between just staying in an ordinary B&B and one that is a great one . We will be back!

My husband and I were only able to stay one night at this lovely inn, but even in so short a time, we could see how special it is, and how much we'd like to return. It is a working farm with an eco-twist; guests can enjoy llamas grazing in the pasture, and chickens in the barn, while staying cozy with solar power inside the house. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. We stayed in Room 1, the spacious king on the second floor, with gorgeous views of pastureland, a small secluded deck, a gas fireplace, and a large whirlpool tub. The attention to detail is second-to-none. The owners, Scott and Vince, have thought of every comfort, and are the perfect hosts. If you are passing through the Augusta area, and want a first class place to stay, this is the inn for you. But try to stay longer than we did, as it is really a destination in itself, a place to relax, unwind and explore in a leisurely way the lovely countryside that surrounds the inn. And don't miss Vince's delectable breakfasts!

This is a gorgeous place to stay if you need to be near Augusta. Just a short distance away from Augusta in the very quaint Village of Hallowell, it was the perfect retreat. We were impressed that the farm uses solar and wind power to generate it's energy requirements and it's position on top of a hill gives you a lovely vista to gaze upon while sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch watching the Llamas frolic in their field. We stayed in Room 5 which was a good sized room, extrememly comfortable queen size bed, in room en-suite, free in room WiFi and, being a corner room, offered lovely views in two directions. There is a common kitchen for guests which had lovely snacks and drinks available 24 hours. There was also a bar for that essential cleansing ale or two. Vince and Scott were charming and attentive hosts. Although on the night of our stay they were hosting two weddings, they still had time to advise us on the local eateries and sightseeing options of the area. The breakfast, prepared by Vince, was delicious! We would also like to mention a wonderful little restaurant in Hallowell, Joyce's. The food was first class and very reasonably priced. I had the Grilled Chicken with Roasted Garlic Pesto Sauce and the chicken was cooked to perfection, tender and melt in your mouth. My husband had the Roast Pork with Stuffing & Bourbon Demi Glace which he raved about. Maple Hill Farm Inn and Joyce's for dinner, a winning combination!

Our reviews say it all. Serving the Augusta Maine area, Maple Hill Farm is a small boutique hotel (an intimate country inn, if you'd like to call us that!) that perfectly combines true eco-consciousness, country serenity, relaxing comfort, and fine amenities. Surrounded by acres of rolling fields and woods, including an active bird feeder and a barn full of llamas and chickens, we were named "One of the Best 5 Green Hotels and Inns" in New England by Yankee magazine in 2017, and also Maine's first certified "Environmental Leader" green lodging establishment with a huge solar electric array plus solar hot water and its own wind turbine. Huge double whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, and private decks accentuate some guest rooms. A sauna and outdoor hot tub beckon the guest to truly relax, along with full bar service, a full breakfast cooked to order, and personalized attention. EV charging stations, too! ... more   less
