We had a delightful stay at Knights Inn. The staff were warm, pleasant and helpful. The rooms - we had two - were spotless and in good condition. The decor is old, but I didn't see anything that was worn out. The smell of the rooms is similar to mothballs (I've smelled much worse in a Marriott Resort at 3x the money AND the windows didn't open) but it dissipated once we'd opened up. We enjoyed sitting outside in the evening. There are many thoughtful touches - chairs outside each room, an iron and ironing board and hair dryer, fridges in the rooms (they even put a box of baking soda in each fridge), a microwave in the lobby to reheat your leftovers, if you have them, and tea and coffee 24 hours.
We also loved the location. It is on the highway, but set back in relatively quiet Hancock - Ellsworth in summer is jam-packed and noisy. The chains are all packed in to Ellsworth, but I don't need to be there. I'd be happy to stay here again.
Good: Location, Price (compared to other hotels in Hancock/Bar Harbor), Front Desk
The photo of the property provide false hopes but location is very much accessible. You have everything close to you in a five mile radius. Front desk was good and they even recommended us not to try the sunrise as it would be raining which it did. But the room/shower/toilet was small and the bath had no lock. We did not find a waste bin on the first day but there was one on the second day. Since the door opens to outside, mosquitoes and bugs always find a way in. For the price in Hancock this might be an average stay but if you are on vacation, I suggest to look somewhere else. Coffee is available at front desk and very nice people there I must say.
Great price on an older motor inn. Friendly staff close to the highway. No frills as we just wanted a place to stop and go, Thanks. I would stay there again if only sleeping and leaving. I would say, in todays terms, you get more than you pay for. Offered "walk-in" discounts. Greeted me by my name.
