My wife and I have stayed in many bed and breakfast inns over the years and always with excellent experiences. The Harpswell
Inn was most disappointing. I understand the new owner was
previously involved with Howard Johnsons Restaurants and
the breakfast quality at the inn reflects the type of food that
Howard Johnsons served in its era. The day begins with extremely poor coffee. The owners provide cookies in a jar with another jar next to it requesting donations for the cookies. Perhaps the owners should consider raising the price of the rooms to compensate for the cost of the cookies which were not particularly outstanding. When my wife asked for some additional kleenex for the room, the owner responded by saying that he had just recently replenished the kleenex box.It was eventually replenished upon her second request. The bed was not well made and the towels were not placed on the towel racks but left on the bathroom counter on one occasion. In fairness, they have some lovely dogs.
