“Great camp run by the nicest people”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

I returned from Portugal few weeks ago where I had an great stay at the Karma Surf Retreat. Due to an injury I was not able to surf but still enjoyed the trips to the beach every day and was able to try body boarding for the first time (it seems to be a huge thing in Portugal.) I was also very pleased with the twice-a-day yoga lessons, half of which were in the Iyengar style and the other half vinyasa flow. There is also a ton of other stuff to do in addition to yoga and surf.

The accommodation is nice, clean and spacious with a huge garden and a great view to the sea - really a place to chill out after your surf lessons and before/after yoga. Food is great too and vast majority of it was vegetarian which I was happy about.

The best thing however were the people: Time, Jens and Alina run the place in a well organised, yet very relaxed, manner and I felt really well taken care of from start to end. I definitely see myself going back, especially now knowing how accessible Cascais is from the Lisbon airport.

I went to Karma with two girlfriends and we stayed in the cottage. We had an incredible week of yoga and surfing (especially as relative novices)! Jens and Timo were fabulous hosts and the villa was tranquil and beautiful. We came back relaxed and ready to carry on with the yoga (surfing sadly isn't possible in London!). There was a great international mix of guests and everyone was fun and enthusiastic. One of our group re-visited a couple of months later and we would all love to repeat the holiday next year!

Allthough the cottage is not available anymore, we would be happy to have you here again!
Thank you for the nice words. We are happy you enjoyed your holidays with us.
It also is nice to hear people that come together at Karma Retreats meet afterwards and build friendships! Very nice!
Looking forward to seeing you again!

After last year's succes we decided to return to Karma Surf Retreat for a second time. It felt like coming home!

Jens and Timo, together with the
girls made our stay a bliss. Great food, great company and great fun! Annet and Silvia's yogalessons were perfect (namaste!) and the instructions of Luis and Co. made our surfing skills improve enormously.

The whole Karma experience gave us the relaxed feeling like we have been on holiday for months.

Thanks guys and gals for another super holiday. We hate to say goodbye and cannot wait to come back!

What can I say...first your nice words, and then showing up each year is the best non-verbal positive feedback of all. Since I am sure, you know also lots of other nice places you could go to - it must be the Guincho Villa and our holiday concept! THANK YOU for trusting us with one of the most important times of the year: summer holidays. Also we are happy, that we (or presumably more our yoga teachers) inspired J. to also become a yoga teacher. You guys also push us even more to every year to have somthing new we can present to you. In 2015 it will be the yoga pavillon and ...I cant tell yet. Its a secret. ;-)
Sending lots of love - you guys rock!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Best wishes,
jens

I travelled to a lot of places over the world, but my first 'alone-trip' in Europe was one of the most special ones! The hosts, the group, the food, the yoga(teachers), the surf, the surroundings, everything was just AMAZING!
I truely reccomend you to visit this place when you have the opportunity. I will assure, you will come back home with tons of new energy and inspiration!

Our family of four (children aged 5 and 7) decided to spend a week in portugal in july to get a taste of surfing and do some yoga. The retreat indeed arranged this very well and , though neither my husband and i will ever be great surfers, we had a lot of fun trying. Our youngest did not like the surfing but this was no problem as babysitting was easily available. Although the retreat is mainly set-up as a house party we were put up in a lovely little cottage 1 min walk from the main house. The big plusses are that everything is seamlessly arranged with absolutely lovely breakfasts and lunches (best healthy breakfast i ever encountered so far). Dinneroptions are good and plentiful within 15 min driving radius. Other big plus is location, location, location, probably one of the best places to stay in portugal. We rented a car and were therefore could easily reach a great number of attractions, lisbon (25min), cascais (10 min), guincho beach (5 min), sintra mountains with its fairytale castles and gardens (20 min). Timo and Jens who run the place do a very good job in making everything run smooth and people feel welcome. There were couples, groups of friends single people and families present when we stayed and i think all of them had a great time. I felt it to be a very nice alternative for a family with young children to a week's resort holiday. Definite a feel-good experience.

Hello Marjan, thank you very much! We really appreciate your words! We added green smoothies and some vegan breadspreads to the breakfast to make it even healthier!
You guys need to come back and try! Maybe now your youngest even gets hooked on surfing. :-)
Best, Jens

Last week would always be associated with something so rejuvenating and beautiful that I don't think I will ever forget my first ever trip to surf&yoga retreat. It is not advertised Bounty chocolate commercial - it is so much more. Rocking in the hammock listening to Ben Howard after a good day of surfing, drifting away in a snooze before the evening yoga class - was such a piece of tranquility that I never knew existed. You do different types of yoga as well. Believe me - waking up in the morning and holding those powerful poses while looking over the Cascais area and ocean afar - is an experience worth travelling for.

Accommodation is simple but satisfies all necessities - you share a beautiful villa with about 10-15 different people (majority of them are singles and majority of the single travellers are young women) and share a room with one roommate.

I would strongly recommend taking a private lesson with the surfing school, if you're like me and struggle to pick up the surfing. I took it once and it literally opened new horizons for me.

was where on a father-son trip in late April 2013. Jens and Timo are great hosts, the yoga sessions were just perfect as well as the breakfast and dinner.

the views from the villa at night down towards Estoril/Cascais are stunning.

Alex, the surf teacher did a great job teaching my son his first steps - he is still talking about it
we will be back soon - for sure
