We brought our children/grandchildren to Houlton, ME for a memorial service. Ended up with 7 rooms x 2 nights at the Shiretown Inn. Rooms exceptionally clean, beds comfortable and area quiet. We ate the the restaurant one night. Food was OK, but took almost 90 minutes to get all the food delivered. Admittedly, we gave them only 4 hours notice but only ordered sandwiches/burgers (on burger night) which should not have created such a delay. Staff were awesome! Would highly recommend this hotel. Only complaint is poor wifi signal. Several family members needed consistent wifi to handle business; signal was repeatedly dropped. Suggest putting in a wifi extender.

Room tip: Ask for room in "new" section.

Thank you for your review. I apologize for the lengthy wait for dinner at the downunder sports pub. I have addressed this issue with the restaurant manager. The wi-fi issue has been resolved. We have completely renovated the system and it has been trouble free since we went live the first part of September.

Thanks again
You were a wonderful group

With the very mixed ratings this motel received, I was a bit hesitant and more than a little concerned, but since one of the reviews mentioned asking for a room in the newly renovated section, I did just that and was delighted with the room. It was on the level of a Hampton Inn or a Courtyard Marriott - extremely comfy bed, lovely linens, very nice decor. It is much nicer that you'd expect, given the average look of the motel from the outside.

Room tip: Ask for a room in the newly renovated section.

Room was comfortable. There was urine in the bathroom trash can. Used the pool and was a bit disappointed . The air in the pool room was warm . But the water was freezing. And way to much bleach. So much we had a rash and burns. Pool towels I brought turned white from the bleach as well. We didn't stay long in water because of the bleach and coldness. The women working in pool room was watching a horror movie and I thought was a bit weird. We went to the restaurant at the hotel. Prices were excellent food was amazing. Thank you! The office has coffee and danish ,donuts , fruit , cereal. Juice milk. Wished thwre was coffee out longer than it was.

We stayed in the "new" part of the hotel. The room was quiet, very clean, spacious and beds were comfortable..couldn't ask for anything more. The swimming pool was a ways from our room and we had to go outside and walk to the pool. I didn't think the pool looked clean and smelled of a cross between mold and strong chlorine so we decided against swimming. There was a bar in the pool area which I didn't think was appropriate especially with children in the area. We visited with the restaurant to have a drink and late night snack, We were greeted by a "bouncer" who wanted to charge us $4.oo per person admission fee to the restaurant because it was "karaoke night" - didn't matter that we were not going to participate in karaoke. After I griped a bit, the very nice bouncer let us in the restaurant without a cover fee but I was certainly taken back by the attempted cover charge. We were in the restaurant long enough to have a drink and a couple of appetizers and during this time we didn't hear any karaoke going on!! The absolute worse part of this visit is when you leave the restaurant, you are bombarded by smokers outside the entrance door and had to walk through and around them smoking - certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. I would suggest they have a specific area for the smokers AWAY from the entrances.

Room tip: Ask for a room in the "new" section which is closer to the street but there isn't much traffic at night that we could see or hear

Stayed 2 nights. Room was comfortable. The pool area was interesting. There's a bar inside, which is great for adults, not so much for families and there's a wonderful restaurant on site with a bar so it didn't make sense to me.
