“Great Small Plates and Cocktails! Fun Atmosphere!”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

We went to Old Vines for a late dinner. The staff let us know there would be a wait on food, and were very apologetic, but we were in no rush and they preoccupied us with really great cocktails, so it was all good. We sat outside by the fire and enjoyed the trendy playlist. Service was good!

We had some meats and cheese and the artichoke and feta pizza, and were delighted with everything. As I said, the cocktails were also excellent.

We were put in a VERY difficult position the day after our visit when faced with the choice of whether to return or visit another new (to us) local restaurant, and while we decided to try something different, Old Vines would be the first place I visit next trip to the area.

“Best Cocktails in the Kennebunks”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

The bartenders know how to mix a cocktail. Ask for Ben and watch him work his magic pouring or picking fresh mint from their herb garden...whatever your taste might be, Ben knows how to make a drink and welcome you like family.

“Great wine and tapas bar”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Dinner-time took on a whole different calibre of food and ambiance at Old Vines Wine & Tapas, back in the lower village of Kennebunk. The renovated barn couldn't be any more cosy. Great music, candlelight, open fire, friendly service and a nice selection of vino from family-run vineyards. Not to mention the cocktails.

The tapas concept extends as far as the dishes being small enough to nibble on or large enough to grab a few and share with your drinking buddy. The good old roasted beet salad graced our table once again, something we'd been digging on this trip. A simple arrangement of golden beets, leaves, feta, dried sour cherries and hazelnut vinaigrette. I could feel the oil from lunch flushing out of my system already.

Something that caught us both by surprise was the coffee-braised short ribs. Not the prettiest looking lump of meat, but if you can imagine melting slow-cooked meat spiked with a little coffee - plus some luscious caramelised shallot polenta - then you know what I'm talking about.

Burrata is always a winner as far as I'm concerned and it's creaminess was only enhanced when teamed with roasted red peppers, arugula, toasted hazelnuts, basil oil and a beautiful honey orange balsamic.

Pity we were still a little full from lunch otherwise we'd have tried more from this menu.

We stopped in after reading reviews on Yelp...SO THANKFUL we did!! This place is small and cozy, exactly what we needed after running in the rain to get there. It was fairly busy on a Thursday night, but we sat at the bar and the waitress/mixologist came right over. She was so helpful and informative...obviously knows her drinks!! It was fun to watch her make the intricate and delicious drinks. Try the Magic juice! We only tried a couple of the meats/cheeses because we had a late reservation at Bandaloop (go there as well!), so I can't comment on the food too much, but our neighboring diners were enjoying their meals!
