“Beautiful rooms in a beautiful town!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

First off, it should be noted that Kennebunkport is an amazing place. Actually, Maine as a whole is a friendly, beautiful, inspiring destination.

Kennebunkport is filled with cute shops, restaurants, and scenic views. Its also filled with places to stay. One of them being the Grand.

Let's start with the good: The rooms are huge and perfectly appointed. Every inch of the hotel, was designed so well it was like you were walking through a magazine photo shoot. And lets talk about the cleanliness. I'ver never stayed in a hotel that was so clean. Beds were comfy to the max. The room had everything you needed and then some. And the location? Smack dab in the middle of everything! But if you want to explore they have bikes to borrow - at no chargw! The hotel was peaceful too - always a plus :)

Now, we get to the not so good. It should be noted that I'm being picky here, as there's nothing really that could be done about this. The hotel was really just a bunch of rooms...and not so much a hotel. There is zero "hotel experience". As a matter of fact, there's no one at the front desk after a certain hour and when we went to leave/checkout, we had to slide our keys under a door! There's no cozy lobby, no cool hotel restaurant, no grounds...nothing. Our family was staying down at the Kennebunkport Inn and were a little jealous because their hotel's lobby/bar scene was so cool and a total "experience". However, when we saw their rooms, we stopped being jealous, lol.

Overall, we would stay here again and are planning on it - because Kennebunkport was so incredible!

When I pulled up the trip advisor to leave a review, our room we stayed in popped up and I almost cried...We miss it so much. My husband and I came to Kennebunkport from Texas for our 20th anniversary. I can't say enough about this hotel. I am a CLEAN freak and I didn't feel like there was one inch of that room that needed to be touched. We were in a corner room so we had a wonderful view out both windows. I'd definitely ask for the very same room! The front desk staff was so helpful. We borrowed the bikes one day and my chain came off (Not a big deal - I Was able to put it back on) but we received champagne and chocolates as an apology. We want to buy the bed we slept on...so comfortable! We traveled all over Kennebunkport area on foot and bike and there is no better place than The Grand! Hands down best place to stay for a couple!

Room Tip: Make sure you are on the front or corner facing dock square...best views here.

The Grande Hotel is perfectly situated in the middle of Kennebunk. We could walk everywhere and didn't use our car the whole weekend!
Even better, the hotel is just beautiful! Our room was small (queen bed), but perfectly appointed with a huge shower and lovely linens. The staff went above and beyond to answer all our questions and make sure all our needs were met. We're so looking forward to returning!

Picked this hotel from a RueLaLa deal as a weekend away for my boyfriend's birthday. Fantastic amenities and comfortable bed. Had heated tiles in the bathroom. It's a boutique hotel, no room service / fitness center but we weren't staying for very long so these things weren't a big deal to us. There was a going away gift bag with bottles of water and cookies. Even though there aren't staff onsite after 7 pm, we had called and told them we would be arriving late. Someone at the front desk called that night prior to closing to make sure we were on our way and it was easy to pick up our keys. We had a great and well rested weekend.

Dear Mass Traveler5500

We are thrilled you loved the Grand and enjoyed out little goodbye gift bags.

We do have someone on our desk until 8pm midweek and 9pm weekends. After the desk is closed we have a manager on call all night who is very close by and can be there very quickly if anyone needs assistance.
These comments are so helpful to us in delivering the highest standards of service to or guests
and we thank you for your review.

We hope you will come back to see us soon.

We stumbled across this hotel travelling in Maine...what a great find. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Decor and craftsmanship is immaculate. Bikes were a huge plus for us as we were looking to stay active on vacation. This is a quaint little spot full of charm. Highly recommend it.

Stayed here for three nights. I got a good rate but, when we entered the room/bathroom, there was a blood stain on the top of the toilet tank cover. We were in a rush to leave for Portland. We dropped our bags and I just told the front desk about it. No apology, no note or anything.
I think I have to share this because I use Trip advisor a lot. This may be a one time but it happend to me. My disappointment was, I was told today that their housekeeping is the best! Hello! I just left the front desk not arguing. :( make your own conclusion.
Do not accept 201, our room, which is the King Grand, for the ice maker is really next to our front door. The ice maker shared the wall of our room. Every few minutes the ice machine spits out ice and it made a lot of noise. It wakes you up. This is not an exaggeration. After the third night, it did not bother me any more.
The hotel is nice, near the center.

We were all extremely saddened at The Grand Hotel to read this review.

We did investigate these claims and our findings were different. However, it is not our policy to second guess. We did not do an excellent job in addressing this situation and resolving the guests concerns and in that we are truly regretful.

We appreciate the comments on the ice machine and are taking steps to have it relocated.

This is a small hotel, right on the edge of the hustle and bustle of quaint Kennebunkport.

The hotel is very much a boutique hotel, with only two floors. It is not a full service hotel (no room service, lobby, bar, pool, fitness, etc.) and there are no staff members on property overnight, but this did not bother us one bit. You can reach staff at any time and they put a basket of essentials out in the evenings, in case you need anything. Your room key opens the outside door, so you can come and go as you please. During the daytime hours, there is someone at the desk at all times and they are extremely helpful with suggestions and recommendations in the area, as well as arranging fishing or making reservations for meals.

As someone who is very picky about hotel cleanliness, The Grand, exceeded my expectations. All bedding is white and everything can be cleaned and washed for each guest, which is a must for me. The hotel itself was immaculate and our room was the same. The bathroom was fabulous, with heated floors and a great shower. The towels were also upgraded from most cheap hotel towels and were actually capable of drying and covering you after a shower!

The rooms were small, but cozy. We had a King Grand room which was furnished very nicely and had everything that we needed. It had a large balcony that overlooked the streets and through buildings you could see the water, but it was a stretch. But truly there aren't many river views within downtown Kennebunkport, so this didn't bother us in the slightest bit. We enjoyed people watching from the balcony while having a drink before dinner or over breakfast in the mornings.

My only very minor complaint was that we had quite a bit of early morning noise from the floor above. We stayed on the 2nd floor and every morning at around 7am, there was a considerable amount of banging upstairs. I'm not sure if this was cleaning staff or if it was other guests, but it was much louder than I'm used to in other hotels. However, we were so pleased with our stay, that this was only a minor inconvenience in an otherwise perfect stay.

I highly recommend The Grand Hotel and really look forward to returning on our next visit to Kennebunkport.
