“Nicely run, a bit tough with a baby.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

The Captain Fairfield had many of the nice touches you would expect from a New England B and B. Breakfasts were exquisite 3 course meals. There were complimentary sodas and cookies waiting, a sitting room/library and comfortable chairs outside (not to mention cornhole). The staff were very nice as well and always trying to acocmodate us. We had our 4 month old and they would only let us stay in room 8 with her despite other rooms that were just as large or better configured for having a little one in tow. The baby monitor would not work in the library, which meant we had to read at night in the breakfast room. It wasn't like the room was secluded so no one could hear the baby. She was well enough behaved that they sent us a nice note afterwards about how much they enjoyed meeting her. Overall we enjoyed the hotel and know they said they had some occupancy issue but having seen the rooms this did not seem to make a lot of sense.

We are so pleased that you had a great visit and enjoyed all the wonderful amenities and services of our Kennebunkport inn. The issue with extra guests and our rooms is that our Certificate of Occupancy explicitly states that Room 8 is the only room that is allowed to have more than two people. This is based on Kennebunkport fire regulations and the historic structure of the inn. Unfortunately, that is beyond our control. It truly was a pleasure having you and your lovely child visit. We hope you visit us agin in the near future. All the best.

This little bed and breakfast was everything I had hoped for this trip with my mom. Excellent wine list, wonderful service! If you're looking for a girls weekend or a romantic getaway, this is the place for you. The breakfast was amazing! The outdoor area with Adirondack chairs is great for good conversation.

Room Tip: You'll get a great room no matter what!

Really nice room. Apple TV and provided iPad are great amenities. Breakfast was fantastic and light each morning and the innkeepers were super helpful with recommendations, beach passes, and even provided beach chairs.

We had a great stay here. We like B&Bs but get put off by the "grandma" decor. Not here! Modern decor in a historic building. All the guests the day we were there appeared to be young professional couples like us. There's a great space outside for relaxing that doesn't appear in any of the site photos. A quick walk to town and lots of amazing food options nearby. Hopefully we'll be back next year!

You're right. No "grandma" decor here -- unless your grandma has a keen, modern fashion sense (which many do!). We're glad you enjoyed your stay and made the most of our outdoor lounge and central location to the heart of Kennebunkport. Thanks for your review and for staying at our Kennebunkport inn. Catch you next time you head east!

We had a truly lovely time at the Captain Fairfield Inn! From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was exceedingly warm and welcoming. Jessica gave us great recommendations for local spas, sailing trips, restaurants, and wine from the Inn's selection. The grounds and house are beautiful. We enjoyed the eclectic decor and its nod to tradition in equal measure. Our room was large, comfortable and stylish. The inn was very quiet--a big plus when seeking some R&R. But our favorite part of this particular place was the fantastic three course breakfast each day! The first two courses--a fruit, followed by a baked item--were always delightful, and they provided a choice each day between two main dishes. There was usually an egg option with toast and a pancake/french toast type option served with bacon or sausage. Everything we ate was delicious! The ingredients were often local and the produce was in season. At some B&B's the breakfast isn't really worth getting up for and you might rather sleep in; not here! It was well worth making it downstairs by 9:30. In addition, they set out delicious, freshly baked cookies each day along with beverages and tons of brochures on local sites and activities. We would definitely stay at the Captain Fairfield again!

Jed makes one heck of a breakfast, doesn't he?! We are so pleased that you had a great stay at our Kennebunkport inn and that Jess pointed you in the right directions for eating, dining and generally having a great time in The Kennebunks. Thank you so much for your recommendation and we look forward to having you join us again at Captain Fairfield Inn.

We had a thoroughly fantastic stay at Captain Fairfield Inn during the week of July 4th. Admittedly, we were at first reticent at the idea of an inn/b&b (us being hip & young and all) but with a referral from Jetsetter and generally stellar reviews, we decided to give it a go.

We definitely made the right decision. The accommodations provide complete modern amenities with a historic charm. Think flat screen television, an iPad provided upon arrival, designer bed and bath linens and rainfall shower head. The innkeepers, Jed, Alana and Jessica are genuinely delightful people. The location is ideal, walking distance to the hustle and bustle of Dock Square. We were even able to walk to Colony Beach to watch the fireworks.

We stayed two nights in the Walker Room which was great but the other 3 nights were spent in the recently re-done Lark Suite which is complete lovely luxury. I highly recommend the Lark Suite which is spacious, well designed and had a fireplace and private outdoor patio area (wifi worked perfectly as I was sitting outside the patio and streaming Netflix). I aspire to have a bathroom just like the one in the Lark Suite some day!

The 3-course gourmet breakfast is tasty and a nice added value. We also arranged to have an a la carte experience with a lobster picnic dinner for us and some family in town. Everything was setup beautifully and we were very pleased with how it turned out.

We plan on being repeat guests!

Room Tip: There is no beating the Lark Suite. It is priced higher but well worth the extra splurge.

So glad we could impress your hip young selves! Our whole approach is to offer a bold modern style in an historic home, with fresh new amenities for today's traveler, but with a sense of old-fashioned hospitality. Sounds like it hit the mark for you and we are so glad. The Lark Suite is a serene haven and we are pleased that you enjoyed it, our gourmet breakfast and great location to the fullest. We look forward to your return to Kennebunkport and Captain Fairfield Inn.

We just got home from a 2 night stay at the Captain Fairfield. This was our 10th visit to this fantastic B&B. The rooms of the inn have been recently renovated and the breakfasts do not disappoint you. The food was great and the innkeepers make you feel right at home. We had fantastic Maine weather and spent a good deal of time downtown, including a fine dinner at The Hurricane. We will definitely return to the Captain Fairfield as well as spend a few days at 76 Main on Nantucket.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 - 6 have the feel of the old inn while rooms 7, 8 & 9 are part of an addition. Rooms 3...
