We recently stayed with Sarah and Eric at the Captain Jefferds Inn. What a treat. The have the best sun room that I just couldn't stay out of. Our room had a water feature, a fireplace and a king bed. We were so comfortable we could have just moved right in. They also have the best sheets ever in the history of inns. It's a wonder I got out of bed at all. Breakfast was great and we had the best time chatting with other guests. Truly we were so comfortable and felt so welcome, I didn't want to leave.

Kim thank you for the wonderful review. Yes the sheets are great they are a sateen sheet which has have a luxurious look and feel. The room you stayed in was the Assisi room. It is a beautiful, large room on the third floor of the main house, with a king size iron bed and a lovely sitting area in front of a gas fireplace. It's large bathroom features an Italian tiled shower with dual shower heads. We are happy you felt so at home. Please return anytime you like.

Cheers!

The Southern Maine Coast has plenty of charming destinations, and Kennebunkport is at the top, in my opinion. High-end without being stuffy, appealing to the tourist without being tacky, it's a beautiful place. Adjacent to the small shopping district is a lovely residential neighborhood, where inn after quaint inn is located. And it's there where Captain Jefferds stands out, possibly for its sheer size. It's big. It also has lots of curb appeal. Sarah and the staff greeted us and gave us a quick tour; it didn't take long for me to see that, just like the town itself, the Inn is beautiful, manicured and comfortable.

The room in which we stayed was great... huge for two people, with a gas fireplace that warmed things up in a hurry. I think it's a bit of a balancing act when it comes to decorating B&B guest rooms: convey the local flavor, the personality of the house, or both; in a way that isn't knick-knack-y or overdone. Captain Jefferds succeeds here. Cozy doesn't begin to describe the bed experience, which envelops the slumberer in an extraordinary pillow-top experience. I happen to be more of a firm mattress kind of guy, but I did get a good night's sleep.

Breakfast was innovative and tasty; and the service was very attentive. We chatted briefly with Sarah as we left; she is well-suited for this business, as she was very engaging and welcoming. I can't imagine that there's a reason to stay anywhere else in town.

George hi and thanks for the review. I just checked, 442 total reviews and 90% of them in the EXCELLENT category! Thanks for calling our attention to that!

You mention curb appeal, I remember doing some recent historical research on the area, and although the long rounded fenced in corner of Pearl and Pleasant Streets has been replaced over the years (with the new one adding some terrific scale to the view) the Inn was easy to pick out. For those into historical architecture , Kennebunkport and Kennebunk makes for a great walk about. We have well preserved homes, hotels, granges and open spaces all within walking distance from the Inn. For the arborist, aside for the 100 year old American Elms outside our door, across the river is the Franciscan Monastery and an open space with walking paths designed by Frederick Law Olmsted CO of NY.

Happy you enjoyed breakfast, as I have often written in the past it's a part of the experience we take delicious pride in being very good at. Can't tell you how popular the gas fireplaces have been. Our guests can still get the ambiance of a real wood fire in the living room but it was a good move to change to gas in the guest rooms as they are very convenient for our guests and a lot safer for everyone. We'll keep the gas on for a while longer as the nights still get chilly but in the summer we stop the gas heat and turn on the air conditioners for the few weeks they are needed at the sea shore.

Please come again,

Cheers!

I discovered the Captain Jefferds Inn 12 years ago when we had three babies and a fourth on the way. We only had 24 hours to be away and did not want to spend our few precious hours driving. I found this Inn online. I cannot give enough accolades to the wonderful people who own and run this little taste of Heaven (the real one will be greater still). The House itself is absolutely gorgeous; the location is perfection and Maine speaks for itself as the "way life should be." The variety of room styles and rates helps guests to tailor their choice to the purpose for their stay and their pocketbook as well.
We LOVE this place!

Our much needed, romantic getaway weekend to Kennebunkport started with arriving at another inn, which we had booked months in advance, only to be told they mixed up our dates and booked us for a month later. Fortunately for us, that inn was full and sent us to the Captain Jefferds Inn.

I am so thankful that a mistake brought us to The Captain Jefferds. I cannot say enough good things about our stay there.

Upon arrival, it was late, and we were tired, hungry, and frustrated. From the minute we stepped through the doors, the staff (and other guests) went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable (Thank You Amily and Ann-Marie). We stayed in the Baxter room our first night and moved to the Chatham room our second night because the Baxter was already booked. Sarah took the time to sit and chat with us and ensure we were properly welcomed and Eric took us on a tour after most of the other guests had checked out on Sunday. All of the rooms are lovely to say the very least. I'd be happy staying in any of them. The house is absolutely beautiful and there has been incredible attention to detail in its renovation and maintenance.

The snacks and coffee/tea/cider in the sunroom were a great touch. The breakfasts were wonderful--we were included in their family-style breakfast even even after showing up at the last minute. Sarah, Eric, and all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and truly made us feel like part of the family.

We are eager to return, and are also planning to book a weekend there for my parents as a birthday getaway.

Robyn, Thank you for the kind words. We are very happy to have been able to accommodate you and we look forward to hosting your parents in the future.

Our Breakfast is something that we take great pride in as it's a signature part of the experience of staying with us. It's always a three course meal served family style incorporating fresh local produce, ingredients and Maine made products when ever possible. Our pastries are fresh made, the coffees are roasted at a small Kennebunk roaster just over the bridge, and the tea blends are one of a kind. And there is no worries about late arrivals, regardless of how last-minute someones arrive may be, there's always room at the table and enough food.

Didn't you just love how other guests joined right in to make you feel at home? That's one of the great things about B&B travel, no matter where you go you feel at home surrounded by family. As part of Distinctive Inns of New England guests who stay at the Inns can expect that feeling of family at whichever DINE Inn they choose to stay.

Hope to see you again and we'll be expecting your parents in the future.

Cheers!

This was our 5th stay at this wonderful inn, we came to celebrate our anniversary and had such a relaxing weekend, we really hated to leave...the staff here is I so great, you really feel like family and it feels like you have come home when you walk in the door. Eric and Sarah are amazing inn keepers, they and their staff will help you set up your stay and your weekend plans before you arrive.....my wife and I had a sleigh ride at rocking horse stables in the morning, a couples massage at cottage breeze spa in the afternoon, and a wonderful dinner at one dock.....all the reservations made ahead of time by Sarah's assistant, Rachel . We spent a lot of time by the fireplace, reading a good book and enjoying the peace and quiet. If you want to reconnect with your spouse, spend a weekend here.....you will be sure to rekindle your romance.

Room Tip: Our favorite rooms are the Baxter room and arundel !

Michael hi, Thank you for the wonderful review. Rachel is exceptional in her service to our guests, but that's probably no surprise to you given it's you 5th time staying with us. :-)

We just adore repeat guest as they are like family stopping in for the weekend, and being in such a convenient location to great restaurants and attractions makes us an annual stop for many of our guests. Thanks for continuing to choose us over so many of the other homes you could have chosen to stay in.

Cheers until next year.

The breakfasts are to die for and there are always delicious cookies! I make it a point to come here once a year and recommend it to everyone staying in the area. Hands down the best inn I've ever stayed at.

Leah713 hi,

Yes, Erik and Sarah are amazing but SHHH! we don't want to inflate their ego's (not that it could ever happen) :) The service you receive is really as a reflection of the service they give to everyone working here. Service doesn't get to this level without really special people at the lead.

Breakfast...Yum! Did you know that March 21st its Maine Maple Weekend and we're serving delicious blueberry pancakes made with wild Maine Blueberries, the little ones that grow close to the ground? If that wasn't enough we're making them with butter and buttermilk from Kates Homemade Butter Company, a Maine company that recently won 1st prize at the world dairy expo in Wisconson. Are you sure you don't want to come back sooner, if not just for two days?

Thank you for all the kudos, referrals and testimonials.

Cheers!
