“Historical Elegance at Captain Lord Mansion”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

My husband and I spent two nights at Captain Lord Mansion in early August. We chose this B&B because of the historical significance to the Kennebunkport area. We were totally thrilled with our stay even though it was pricey. The "Oriental" room was very spacious with a large bathroom. The moment we arrived we were met in the parking lot by an attendant that helped with our luggage. Once inside we were given a tour of the facility and offered delicious refreshments (iced tea, cake, cookies, cheese and crackers). Later in the evening there were more refreshments available. There was a coffee/hot tea station available 24 hours, as well as a microwave for popcorn. The breakfast each day was awesome. Breakfast included fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, a hot bread item (muffin, sweet roll) and a hot entree. Even though there was only one entree choice, the chefs made every effort to accommodate all guests. The attention to detail was first rate at the Captain Lord Mansion. I certainly understand why they have so many return visitors. I would recommend visiting the Captain Lord Mansion website to view pictures and descriptions of the mansion.

Room Tip: The "Oriental" room is on the front corner of the main building. It is very spacious and...

My wife and I stayed recently for a couple of days at the Captain Lord. Excellent location within walking distance to all the area has to offer. Walking ocean ave in the am both mornings was great sharing with my wife. We stayed in the Dana room and it was just fine. Only recommendation put the TV (increase the size a little) on the wall in place of the portrait of the boat. Otherwise the room was very comfortable. Each night we relaxed with a chocolate dessert wine and each morning a wonderful breakfast prepared deliciously by Susan and Kayle. The character of the building and the grounds were very inviting. We strongly recommend the Captain Lord Mansion and look forward to returning.

Room Tip: at the time we placed the reservation for 2 days in a row we had only the DANA room available and it...

Dear Boston, Thank you for your positive review and mentioning our convenient location. Yes, we are within walking distance to the shops and restaurants in Kennebunkport's famous "Dock Square". Also, we appreciate your constructive comment about the TV; however, we have tried to keep the TVs inconspicuous, but readily available in each guestroom. We are glad you enjoyed the evening dessert wine and the breakfasts. Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield

This is one of the most beautiful B & B's we have ever been to.It is impeccably decorated, immaculately clean, carefully maintained with much attention to every detail. The garden views from the windows are lovely. It is a short walk to the village shops and restaurants. We also enjoyed the large breakfasts that were very creative. We had filet mignon and eggs one morning that was wonderful !Try the "Champion" room. Its a little more expensive but worth it.It has an antique hand painted head board on the bed and the most over the top bathroom we have ever seen. Two person jacuzzi with roman pillars, two vanity person sink, separate shower and a beautiful roman tiled waterfall ! Exquisite. If you are into decorating you will love it ! There are also bicycles to borrow in the carraige house.Don't forget to visit the gift shop in the basement that is filled with goodies. The owners and the staff are laided back but very accomodating. This was our 2nd visit and it won't be our last.Worth the 5 hour trip from Long Island,N.Y.

Room Tip: Loved The Champion Room !

Another wonderful time at Captain Lord Mansion! It was our 5th visit which was marked by Bev and Rick with a lovely gift of a blown glass bowl. Cookies in our room and the usual delicious breakfasts. There was a couple there who were there for their 95th visit! Imagine that! This is the first time we have been there in the summer and the gardens were spectacular. I would recommend it at any time of the year. We love it at Christmas time when the Inn is beautifully decorated.

Room Tip: We have stayed in several rooms. You really can't miss. Some are larger and it is reflected in...

I wasn't amazed as others seem to be. I didn't experience the warm and welcoming staff, my only interaction was at breakfast and check-in. The room was nice and the yard lovely but breakfast was only so-so. I wish I had been told about the bikes that could be borrowed.

Dear Anne, Thank you for your honest review. My wife and I sincerely apologize that you did not experience a warm feeling from the staff. Usually there is an effusive welcome including a tour of the public facilities including an explanation of available amenities such as bicycles which are free for use by guests. Again, we are sorry that your visit did not meet your expectations. Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield

Although we have been going to Capt. Lord for six years this was our first summer stay. It was our 46th anniversary and we were greeted by wine and chocolates along with their usual home made cookies. Sue, our chef, served breakfast one morning in the garden. It, as always , was a wonderful treat. The company was wonderful. the staff like old friends and the room beautiful and constantly updated. Looking forward to going back in January.

Room Tip: Check the web sight. Room are just as they appear.

Dear Jake, Thank you for your review and your frequent visits over many years. Yes, the summer is totally different than the off-season. However, we are pleased that you were able to experience our extensive gardens, including breakfast in the gardens as well as the many activities available to guests in peak season. We look forward to your next visit in January. Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield
