My husband and I first visited the Captain Lord Mansion in 1985. We have returned every year since. Our experience there set the bar very high in what our expectations are from B&Bs. We have stayed at several nice properties in New England, but the CLM is still at the top of our list. You will be impressed by the inn's cleanliness. The inn staff make sure it is immaculately kept, inside and out. From the elegantly appointed and cozy public areas, to the warm, hospitable breakfast areas in the kitchen and gathering room, to the beautifully furnished and decorated guestrooms, this should be your go-to place for a break from your reality. Breakfasts are bountiful and creative - the sticky buns to die for. Antiques abound in the public areas. Guest rooms are beautifully and whimsically decorated, and are also furnished with antique pieces and with what could be THE MOST comfortable beds ever. LED tvs and CD players with a selection of calming CDs add a nice touch, and gas fireplaces in all the rooms add to the romantic atmosphere. Bathrooms have either whirlpool tubs, slipper-shaped soaking tubs, or large multi-jet showers, and many bathrooms have heated floors - a welcome amenity during chilly winter visits around Christmas Prelude time. The inn staff is friendly and cheerful, and always helpful with advice about things to do or making your dinner reservations at the many fine restaurants in the Wells/Kennebunkport area during busy times of the year. The owners of the inn set the tone - they are dedicated to making your stay at their inn nothing less that delightful and to making their inn the best. In our book, they have succeeded.
