“Soooooooooo Maine”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

Cute, simple and perfect for Maine. We even had to turn on the little electrical heater in the morning cause it was chilly. I always wanted to stay in tourist cabin and now I've done it. The internet even worked in our room. Glad we did it.

At the very serious risk of watching my affordable prices skyrocket with increased ratings, I'm writing this out of sheer loyalty to the most wonderful family running this motel. They made our stay one of the most delightful ever, and I can't let my selfish desire to keep this secret all to myself overcome my hope that this place will prosper for another sixty years.

When you live in Maine, it's hard to be a tourist in your own state because the standard is already set pretty high. But this place... THIS place... is such a perfect throwback to a simpler life. The cottages are from the 1950s, and while they are kept up to modern specs, it's easy to believe June Cleaver is about to walk around the corner any minute.

The sea breeze ensured the scent from the fresh lavender hung from the ceiling wafted throughout the entire cottage. Our back deck afforded ocean views, and was a short jaunt to Camden. For folks who think they have to stay in Camden proper should reconsider setting aside Lincolnville. She may be the less vibrant of the sisters, but her soul is just as deep and beautiful.

If you're looking for a girls getaway or a romantic getaway, this place is not to be missed.

Room Tip: No tips needed; this place was fabulous wherever you ended up.

I used to live in Camden, and have stayed in many nearby hotels and motels. I just stayed at Abbington's this past weekend, and it's my favorite and I will recommend to everyone looking to visit Camden. It is a true Maine place - simple, comfortable and affordable. The 1950s cabins are whitewashed inside, scented with fresh lavender and include decks that overlook Penobscot Bay. It's just a few mintues drive from Camden and Belfast on the most beautiful stretch of Route 1. While the motel is close to Route 1, I was surprised that there was no traffic at night and incredibly quiet. The innkeeper, Seth, is friendly and helpful and the pool was the perfect touch. I've already recommended it to friends, and plan on staying there again. A true value.

Room Tip: Cottage 8 is slightly further back on the property and likely quieter.

I stayed here this past weekend for a girls' getaway and we fell in love with this charming property. The website doesn't do it justice; the cottages are beyond precious (rustic, but that's what I love for a Maine summer stay) and Seth, who runs the place, is FABULOUS.

The pool was perfect, our cottage had a spacious deck overlooking a lovely field and the bay, and the bed was far, far more comfortable than we were expecting.

We loved that it was a quick 5 minute drive from Camden center and it made it easy to scoot up to Chase's Daily for breakfast in Belfast the next morning (get the pecan cinnamon buns).

To top it all off? They even have baby bunnies as pets and we were able to get in a quick snuggle before departing.

Seth was super accommodating, helpful and put on the best poolside music for us.

The only downside: we didn't find this gem sooner in the season! I will be making it my mission to come here as much as humanly possible next summer. And with the totally reasonable price and lack of two-night minimum (like most places in the area), it's going to be often.

We have stayed in cottages 4 & 5 twice, once in 2010, and again this summer, 2014. The cottages are nice. They rustic, and quaint. The view of the bay from the little back porch is excellent. They don't offer coffee, but there is a great place to get coffee at Dot's cafe just up the road toward Lincolnville. We were comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much.

Room Tip: I haven't seen the motel rooms, but cottages 4 & 5 have really nice views of the water off i...

This is the 6th summer we have stayed at Abbington's. Other family members join us each summer and friends have stayed here during the fall on our recommendation. We enjoy our meals as a family on the decks outside our rooms. The rooms are clean, with a lovely ocean view. There are also individual cabins. My aunt and cousin and friends have stayed in some of the cabins and we have stayed in several of the motel rooms so we are very familiar with the accommodations. Seth and Jessica are managing and they are helpful, welcoming, and very knowledgable about the area. The location is great for beach going, Lincolnville Beach or hiking in the nearby state park, Camden Hills. The rates are reasonable and the rooms are quiet and comfortable. We can' t wait to return next summer.

Room Tip: The cottages are more private.

1950's era cottages that take you back in time to a simpler time in America.
No frills, nothing fancy. Just sweet, clean, rooms and friendly management.
Very reasonably priced. Conveniently located between Lincolnville and
Camden for dining, shopping, and site seeing.
