WE arrived a day early at the park. The campground was full but we were lucky and snagged a cabin instead. WE had a beautiful setting on a lake with mountains in the background. When visiting the park plan extra time for the drive in. the road into the park is a dirt road. The drive to our cabin took over 45 minutes from the gate.

Located in the northern section of the park next to Lower South Branch Pond. Well kept, clean camp ground with a mix of lean to's and campsites. Drive in access. No running water. Outhouses only (compared to those found elsewhere on the appalachain trail, these were very clean.) Campsites were a bit close together. Would recommend any of the lean to sites 1 thru 7 located on the shoreline of the pond. Watch out for racoons and bring some cash for firewood $3 a bundle. The lake is gorgeous and the water was warm when we were there over labor day. Canoes available at the site. If you're planning on hiking Katahdin be aware, it's about a 2 hr drive from this site south thru the park to one of the main trail heads. Overall had a really nice experience. Would've like to have had some more time to explore the area.

Room tip: Lean to's 1 thru 7 are on the shoreline of the pond.

We stayed at Nesowadehunk campground in the park and it was beautiful! We were camped within hearing distance of a family with a crying baby. We had to cart our stuff to our site, but it was a short walk. There are no showers or running water, but it worked for us as a place to stay overnight before hiking Katadin the next morning.

Very rustic and simple yet pristine campgrounds. No electricity, running water or trash bins. Outhouses only for bathroom facilities. Limited lean to and bunk facilities otherwise tents. No RVs allowed. Beautiful scenery and running brooks. Don't forget your bug spray. Mainers are intent in keeping the grounds this way and are vigilant about it. Few crowds. Well kept secret compared to national parks. Park rangers helpful and friendly.
