“Great, Cheap, and a $20 Shower AFTER checkout!”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

OK so this is the cheapest hotel available if you are going to Baxter State Park. You're in the middle of Maine and, if you're like me, you just drove a significant distance. You'll be up early to get to the trail head before the rangers give away your reserved spot too.

So crash here! You're not looking for the Ritz. Heck, you SHOULD be camping outside, but it's a last-minute day-trip to do a worthwhile hike and you didn't have time to arrange permits and other camping nonsense.

This place was clean and had electricity and hot water and great water pressure. What else do you want? Well, just in case, there is also a chinese restaurant attached as well as a bar and there is a hot tub. I could hear the people above me creaking my roof but whatever. I hit the hay and was up at 5:30.

But the best part is that if, like me, you spent your next day hiking and now are a smelly mess, for $20 they will let you use a shower in an empty room as you pass back through town! After checkout! Makes a 5+ hour drive MUCH more bearable, and you wont be too smelly and embarrassed to stop at the Olive Garden in Augusta to celebrate your brilliant hike with pasta and unlimited breadsticks!

Room Tip: Second floor is prob quieter.

Needed to stay in Millinocket to be able to get an early start on hiking Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park. I know many people would just camp, but I had been on the road prior and needed a bed. This place is located near the entrance to the state park, making it a suitable place to stay. Clean enough... and the hotel clerk helped me find an Indiana Jones marathon on TV to help me fall asleep before the hike - not like there's anything else to do on a night in Millinocket!

It's not the newest or prettiest place I've ever stayed, but it's clean and the location is close to everything. The hotel is dated and in need of some repair, but the staff were really nice and helpful. The air conditioner was so loud we couldn't hear the TV. They had a continental breakfast (coffee, tea, juice, milk, cereal, bagels, waffles). The attached tavern was great for night time beer and to catch the game. Eat at the attached Chinese restaurant.

Location was excellent, about 35 minutes drive (at speed limit) to Tote Road Gate into Baxter State Park. Within a very short distance from the hotel there is a Rite-Aid, McDonald's, two grocery stores, and a Subway. There were apparently only a few people staying at the time I stayed so I cannot speak about noise from fellow travelers. Internet reception and speed were good in the room. King size bed was mildly slanted on one end and was not very cushiony; definitely a lower quality mattress. Pillows were fine. Bathroom was very basic but functioned well. Through-the-wall small air conditioner did a fine job but was very, very loud, which disturbed sleep significantly. Room was clean. Room had a desk and chair, a separate chair, nightstands, and a dresser with TV. Nice attached bar lounge that I did not use but would beat sitting in the room.

Overall, I stayed here for the price and it was acceptable. The main drawbacks were the diminished bed comfort and the air conditioner noise.

Room Tip: Half of rooms face moderately busy street and half face the quieter back. I would recommend a room...

Spent two nights here while hiking Katahdin. The motel is~ a 45 minute ride from the entrance to Baxter State Park. It was clean and comfortable however the motel is in need of some work. The rooms are old and ours had a broken chair and a very loud air conditioner. The room did have a refrigerator, blow dryer and an ironing board and for the money it was a great deal. Staff were friendly and helpful.

All and all we could`nt wait to shower and get the hell out !
